OAKLAND - A 19-year-old Berkeley man was shot to death this morning outside a North Oakland liquor store.

He was identified as Larry Spencer, who police said was a student at Western Career College.

The shooting happened about 12:46 a.m. today outside a liquor store in the 5300 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way, a block from Children's Hospital.

Police were trying to determine if Spencer had been in the store before he was shot and where the gunman was when he shot Spencer.

When police arrived, people were trying to aid Spencer but whether they were with him when he was shot was not known, Sgt. Todd Crutchfield said.

Spencer was taken to Highland Hospital where he died at 1:17 a.m.

Crutchfield said no motive has been established for the shooting and no arrests have been made.

The killing was Oakland's 39th homicide of the year. Last year at this time there were 48 homicides in the city.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the gunman. Anyone with information can call police at 510 238-3821 or Crime Stoppers at 510 777-8572 or 510 777-3211.
