Glue Factory hosts open studio
PITTSBURG -- A newly formed group of artists, The Glue Factory, will hosts an open studio from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 6 in Pittsburg.
The event, which will feature some 10 artists, will be held at Jason Griego's 20,000-square-foot studio at 446 Railroad Ave.
The group of artist friends joined forces to try to navigate around art galleries and take its show on the road, hoping to make a living through art.
Artists featured include Griego, Stanley Mouse, Doug Desmond, Peggy McGovern, Ron Norman, Bill Sala, Bill Weber, Barbara Stanton, Bruno Aguirre and Jesse Allen.
Teachers' recital is Saturday night

PITTSBURG -- The Delta Branch of the Music Teachers Association of California will host a concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Los Medanos College Recital Hall, 2700 E. Leland Road.
Teacher performing include pianists William Hobbs, Grace Edwards, Catherine Thompson, Eric Thompson, Lynette Stack and Kathleen Flemming, and flautists Kim Zamjahn and Susan Clark.
Admission is $10 adults, $5 children and $20 for a family.
The event is a fund-raiser to benefit the group's LMC scholarship and the Rachel Reilly Young Artist Competition.

'Sound of Music' set at Campanil
ANTIOCH -- Seasoned actors will perform alongside children in "The Sound of Music" at El Campanil Theatre beginning the weekend of June 12.
Members of El Campanil's Children's Theatre will portray the von Trapp family's youngsters. ECCT's artistic director Sharon Redman is also executive director of The Vagabond Players.
Performances are at 8 p.m. June 12-13, and 2 p.m. June 14 and 17. Tickets are $20 general admission, and $15 for seniors and children under 12. On June 17, there is a special group rate for senior groups of 10 or more.
Anna-Lisa Murakoa, whose credits include Madame Butterfly, LaTraviata, and Snow White, stars as Maria, the young woman who leaves the nunnery to care for the von Trapp children. The role of Capt. von Trapp will be played by Jasen Jeffrey, who starred in the Vagabond's first musical, "Funny, You Don't Look Like a Grandmother."
The seven Von Trapp children will be portrayed by Dillon Aurelio- Perata, Kristin Schoell, Jenni Lopez, Megan McNesby, Kevin Collins, Kelsi Holt and Jordyn Foley.
James Parten portrays the teenager whose growing romance with Leisl von Trapp is short-circuited by the Nazi encroachment in Austria.
The Mother Abess will be played by Lin Hypes, and her nuns include Marni Parsons, Teresa Grosserode, Cori Kolb, Patricia Brittain, Adele Chase, Kelly Hansen, Evelyn Owens, and Alexandra Young. Candace Carter plays Frau Schroeder; Matthew Gracy, Max; Mike Thomas, Franz; and Rita Hamlin, Frau Schmidt. Admiral von Schreiber is played by Ted Fuller, with Bill Dietz as Herr Zeller, and Thomas West (and others) as German soldiers.

'Apes' classic film at Campanil
ANTIOCH -- El Campanil Theatre presents the classic film "Planet of the Apes" at 2 p.m. Sundayat 602 W. Second St.
The 1968 film stars Charlton Heston, Roddy McDowell and Kim Hunter. The film centers on three astronauts who come out of deep hibernation to find that their ship has crashed. Escaping with only their clothes, they find that they have landed on a planet where men are pre-lingual and uncivilized while apes have learned speech and technology. One of the astronauts is captured and taken to the city of the apes after damaging his throat so that he is silent and cannot communicate with the apes.
Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for students and seniors (62 and older).

Promise Singers perform at church
DISCOVERY BAY -- Promise Singers of Delta Community Presbyterian Church will present a spring concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at Delta Community Presbyterian Church, 1900 Willow Lake Road.
This dynamic group of young people is a non-audition choir comprised of elementary students aged 6 to 11 years old from the Discovery Bay and Byron communities who practice weekly. Directed by Joyce Moxin, the singers perform annual Christmas and spring concerts each year, as well as inspirational and energizing spiritual and secular programs at local retirement homes, schools and community events.
The program, called "Blessings," features favorites such as "Day by Day," "Put Your Hand in the Hand" and even a few favorites from the Broadway musical "Godspell"! The concert is free, and all are welcome.
Artwork sought for sister city
ANTIOCH -- The Arts and Cultural Foundation of Antioch is seeking artists to create an artwork that best represents Antioch.
Antioch's Chichibu Sister City Committee, in partnership with the Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch, will choose a piece of art to hang in Chichibu's city hall. The artwork will join that of Oakley artist Nancy Roberts, whose work was presented to Chichibu officials during prior exchange visits.
The Chichibu Sister City Committee will be taking the chosen artpiece to Japan on July 12, when Mayor James Davis will present the art to local government leaders to be displayed in their city hall.
