Chichibu Sister city committee member Gary Reiman said he is excited to create this unique opportunity for local artists.

"We are hopeful that our talented artist community will create a work of art that captures the essence of our community," Reiman said.

Entries need to be completed and ready for consideration by June 18. All mediums are eligible for consideration; however, the art must meet airline baggage requirements.

All artworks from participating artists will be on display at Antioch City Hall the week of June 22, with the selection of the artwork chosen to be chosen by the Sister City Committee on June 28. Entries not chosen will be returned to the artists.

Mudgett, Gill sculptures at Lynn House

ANTIOCH -- The art of sculptors David Mudgett and Sam Gill are featured at the Lynn House Gallery through June 6.

After years of working as a pipe fitter, Mudgett started his own metal fabrication business in 1986. Encouraged by his peers to apply his gifts for metalwork to sculpture, and upon completion of his first piece it became clear he had found the creative freedom that he was looking for.

Gill, meanwhile, had a 30-year career as a welder for PG&E. Since his retirement, he has devoted his time to creating one-of-a-kind metal sculptures.

The Lynn House Gallery is open Thursday through Saturday, 1 to 5 p.m. during exhibits. Admission is free. For more information, visit www.art4antioch.org. or call 925-779-7018.

Local actors cast in 'Spitfire'

WALNUT CREEK -- Brentwood Recording Artist Laurie Kinsella stars opposite Brentwood native Nephi Spears in Contra Costa Christian Theatre's "The Spitfire Grill" at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek.

The young woman had seen a photograph of the town while still in prison and decided it was the place for her. The past, however, always has a way of catching up with us all, and that plays out in "The Spitfire Grill" as well.

This musical stage version of Lee David Zlotoff's poignant film plays through Sunday.
