0 Comments | Oakland Tribune, Jun 23, 2009 | by Paula King
With the goal of raising awareness and funding for the Special Olympics games this summer, members of the Martinez Police Officers Association and their families will run the Special Olympics torch from Pleasant Hill to the Martinez Marina on Wednesday morning.
The torch run will begin at 11:45 a.m. at Safeway, 6688 Alhambra Ave. Runners will travel north on Alhambra to Escobar Street, where they'll make a run to onto Ferry Street and to the marina.
Contra Costa County Sheriff's deputies will take the torch across the Delta into Solano County. In Martinez, the runners will be escorted by police patrol vehicles to minimize traffic impact.
