Lakes

AMADOR: Trout are 15 feet deep and still biting. Bass are chasing threadfin shad. They can be found 20 feet off points. A 14-pound catfish was landed over the weekend. (209) 274-4739

CAMANCHE: Trolling in the deep water between Hat Island and the Dam continues to produce trout. Bass are in the main lake and the narrows. Catfish are plentiful at the north and south shore camping areas. (209) 763-5914, (209) 763-5166

CHABOT: Midmorning and early evening have been prime times for trout. Bass are moving into the shallows and taking swimbaits. Catfish plants are under way. (510) 247-2526

CLEAR: Weeds have confounded the best of efforts. Stay on the move and offer topwater plugs. The south end is slow. (707) 279- 4739

DEL VALLE: Trout fishing is good at the dam. Trolling and baitfishing are productive. Catfish are near the Marina. Stripers can be had at Heron Bay and the dam. (925) 449-5201

LAFAYETTE: Trout anglers are getting limits at the south end using Power Bait despite a lack of recent plants. Catfish plants are ongoing. (925) 284-9669

LOS VAQUEROS: Trout fishing has been uneven. Bank anglers do best with yellow Power Bait near the Rock Wall. Trollers are experiencing spotty action but do best working 20 feet below the surface. Stripers show up occasionally. (925) 371-2628

NEW MELONES: Troll the main lake near the dam and spillway for kokanee in the 14- to 16-inch range. The bite is good all day long with a bit of a lull during midday. Bass fishing is good in the coves. (209) 586-2383

PARDEE: Trollers get trout and kokanee at the Narrows, Mel's Coves and inside the river mouth. Kokanee are deeper than the trout. Catfish are on the eastern side of the lake. (209) 772-8108

SAN PABLO RESERVOIR: Farrell's Landing and Bobber Beach are the top spots for trout anglers soaking rainbow Power Bait. Trolling is slow. The catfish bite has yet to kick in. (510) 223-1661

SHADOW CLIFFS: Catfish have been planted for the past two weeks. Trout fishing remains a fair option. (925) 426-0197

QUARRY LAKES: Trout and catfish plants continue here in alternating weeks. A stock of 500 pounds of catfish went in this week. (510) 795-4883

Rivers

AMERICAN: The shad bite remains solid on the upper stretches of the river, from Nimbus Dam to Sunrise. Best bite is in the evening. (916) 388-1956

FEATHER: Shad fishing remains good at the Thermalito Afterbay and the low flow area. Shanghai Falls also is a good bet. (916) 388- 1956.

KLAMATH: The salmon fly hatch produces trout on the most upper stretches. There is a salmon bite on the lower river. (530) 926- 4540

SACRAMENTO (Lower): Striped bass fishing is fair in the vicinity of Colusa. The shad are in the upper stretches below the Red Bluff Diversion Dam. 1-800-670-4448

TRINITY: Salmon are in the lower river but haven't arrived upstream yet. (530) 623-4999

Delta

FRANK'S TRACT: It's a slow bass bite. Stripers are beginning to show, but most are schoolies. (925) 625-2441

RIO VISTA: The majority of the striped bass catch is measured in inches, not pounds. A few legal bass are caught in deeper water near Rio Vista and in the sloughs. Catfish are in the backs of sloughs. (707) 374-2372

TRACY: Striped bass are becoming more active. Most are 20 to 22 inches. Black bass fishing has been slow because of the wind. Catfish are plentiful but small. (209) 835-3182

Saltwater

BERKELEY/EMERYVILLE: The Happy Hooker worked just outside the Gate over the past week and had a mix of stripers, rock cod and a few halibut. It has been too rough to get to the beaches to try for stripers in the surf. Wednesday's trip had eight stripers and eight halibut with an hour of fishing remaining. Boats out of Berkeley have been fishing inside the Bay, primarily at Southhampton Shoals and Angel Island, for decent numbers of stripers and halibut. (510) 237-3474, (510) 654-6040; (510) 223-5388

PACIFICA: Striped bass are present from Mori Point to Mussel Rock. The morning is best. Hairraisers and pencil poppers work well. Lots of bass are in the 20-pound class. Perch fishing has been slow. (650) 355-8303, (650) 359-9790

PILLAR POINT: Windy weather and rough seas have made fishing tough of late. Boats couldn't get out over the weekend. By midweek boats were able to get out for half limits of rock cod. (650) 726- 7133, (650) 726-2913

SAN FRANCISCO BAY: Big tides slowed the halibut fishing in the South Bay. Striped bass are at the Oakland Airport. (650) 589-3474; (510) 703-4148

SAN PABLO BAY: The halibut bite persisted through large minus tides. Paradise has been the hot spot. This weekend, the tides are much better for both halibut and striped bass. (415) 456-0321

SUISUN BAY: A half dozen legal sturgeon were landed from the Martinez Pier over the past week. The first row of ships also is a good spot. Anchovies and grass shrimp work best. (925) 229-9420
