CERT-ainly extinguished

CLAYTON RESIDENT Jeff Rondini, left, holds the shoulder of Patrick Russell as they learn how to use a fire extinguisher to put out small fires during a hands-on drill June 11 for CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) class members from Clayton and Lamorinda. Approximately 30 residents from each city attended the drill at the Contra Costa Fire District Training and Education Facility on Treat Boulevard in Concord. In addition to small-fire suppression, the students put their classroom training to real use in exercises to lift debris off a person, and using search and rescue techniques in an old building to bring out victims safely. They also learned how to perform triage -- prioritizing patient care during an emergency. For more information about Clayton CERT or the next session, call 925-673-7355 or visit www.claytoncert.org.
