Fremont Argus June 25 Letters to the editor

Stop this insanity
THIS LETTER is in regard to the June 14 article on page A11 of The Argus, "Suit over torture gets OK to proceed."
It took four years and millions of dollars to put a self- confessed terrorist in prison. Now Judge Jeffrey White of San Francisco is allowing Jose Padilla's lawsuit against former senior Justice Department official John Yoo to proceed.
Padilla's one of the first Gitmo (Guantanamo Bay) terrorists who is to be tried in a civilian court. Of course the lawyers will play their games with these dangerous people, who will take every opportunity to spout their propaganda.

Longer trials make more money for lawyers who will become rich and bankrupt the country if all Gitmo terrorists are given civil trials.
The terrorists will succeed in destroying the Republic unless the government stops this insanity.
Terrorists should be prosecuted by military tribunals, not the civil courts.

Four points
OK, IT'S time to get some things straight.
First let's take abortion rights. This does not mean a person is in favor of abortion.
This really means we do not agree that high and mighty legislators should mandate that a woman is committing murder if she must make the gut-wrenching decision to have an abortion.
These men will not mandate salary caps on big profiteers who rip us off, but they believe they have a right to mandate how a woman must perform. This is a decision that should only be between the woman, her God and her doctor.
Second: Socialism is not communism.
Third: A person is not an anti-Semitic just because they do not agree with Israel bulldozing Palestinian homes.
The United States won the war over Japan and Germany but we did not take over their land. We actually helped them return to being viable countries.
Fourth: Single-payer health care. This is the most simple and logical system possible. It is simply Medicare for all.
This plan allows everyone to have the same health care and leaves out the inhumane insurance giants whose only goal is to make large profits off the sick and disabled.

No advantage
THIS IS in regard to the Our Opinion column in The Argus on June 19, "Country needs sensible reform in health care."
We had excellent insurance coverage until October 2008 because we both had union benefits. Then Medicare and Kaiser said I had to drop my insurance because my husband and I could not have two Senior Advantages.
Their excuse was they were paying both unions. I asked them to show me where they were paying two unions and never received an answer.
Where we originally were fully covered, we now, between doctor's visits and medication, pay more than $250 a month. They say we can buy a supplemental insurance, but I can't keep my union coverage.
Medicare has, for a fact, taken 6,000 or more people off double coverage, so we can pay Medicare on our costs now.

Misguided
JUDGE SONIA Sotomayor, a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, has a compelling personal story -- one made possible in our great country.
The big concern lies with the fact that Sotomayor uses her own guidelines in making judgments from the bench instead of referring to our Constitution that provides and protects our freedoms and liberties.
In fact, according to The Washington Times, 60 percent of Sotomayor's rulings that have been reviewed by the U.S. Supreme Court have been overturned.
A statement by Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor: "I do not believe it is the function of the judiciary to step in and change the law because the times have changed. I do well understand the difference between legislating and judging. As a judge, it is not my function to develop public policy."
"The proper role of the judiciary is one of interpreting and applying the law, not making it."
