Zetta Arfmann

OSKALOOSA --- Zetta "Camille" Arfmann, 14, Oskaloosa, was found dead Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, near Oskaloosa.

She was born March 4, 1985, in Winchester, the daughter of Dale G. and Tommie Sue Scruggs Arfmann. She was a lifelong resident of the Winchester area and was a ninth grade student at Oskaloosa High School. She participated in track and field while a student at Jefferson County North Middle School.

Camille was a member of Countryside Baptist Church and the church youth group.

Survivors include her mother, Tommie Sue Arfmann, Winchester; her father, Dale G. Arfmann, Lawrence; two brothers, Dale G. Arfmann Jr., McLouth, and George Arfmann, at home; four sisters, Roseanna Erhart, Winchester, Rebecca Daniels, Ottawa, Roberta Graika, Quenemo, and Heidi Bledsoe, Oskaloosa; and a grandmother, Leona Arfmann, Higginsville, Mo.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Countryside Baptist Church near McLouth. Burial will be in reformed Presbyterian Cemetery in Winchester. Relatives and friends will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Barnett Funeral Home in Oskaloosa.

Contributions may be made to the Camille Arfmann Memorial Fund to be designated later and sent in care of the funeral home.

Hazel Brannan

MANHATTAN --- Hazel B. Brannan, 92, Manhattan, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at a Manhattan hospital.

Mrs. Brannan began the kindergarten program in Stockton in 1944 and later taught elementary school music in Plains and Meade. She also taught piano lessons for many years.

She was born Jan. 14, 1907, in Corning, the daughter of Irvin D. and Dora M. Followell Atkins. She graduated from Manhattan High School in 1924, and she earned a degree at Kansas State University in 1963.

Mrs. Brannan was a member of First Christian Church in Manhattan and a former member of the Meade Methodist Church, where she directed the youth choir. She also was a member of Chapter GU of the PEO Sisterhood and a former member and past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also past president of the Meade Federated Sorosis Club.

She married Robert Fenton Brannan on Dec. 8, 1930, in Manhattan. He died March 2, 1975.

Survivors include a son, Roger Brannan, Manhattan; two sisters, Naomi Hodgson, Columbia, Mo., and Wanda Culbertson, Bartlesville, Okla.; and a brother, Richard Atkins, Ames, Iowa.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan. Later services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Meade Methodist Church in Meade. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Meade.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church in Manhattan, the Methodist Church at Meade or Kansas State University for the Irvin and Dora Atkins Scholarship Fund in the College of Agriculture. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home in Manhattan or to Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade.

Garna Cook

MERIDEN --- Garna L. Cook, 70, Meriden, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at a Topeka hospital.

Mrs. Cook was an agent and co-owner of Insurance Is a Helping Hand in Meriden since 1967.

She was born July 20, 1929, in Ellis, the daughter of John F. and Minnie Dietrich Fries. She graduated from Meriden High School in 1947, and she lived most of her life in Meriden.

Mrs. Cook was a member of Meriden United Methodist Church and a life member and past president of the auxiliary to Unit No. 10815 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She also was past district president for the VFW, and she served on all offices of the Meriden Post. She also was a member of the auxiliary to Post No. 225 of the American Legion in Ozawkie and a member of Moose Lodge No. 555 in Topeka.

She married Donald D. Cook on Oct. 10, 1948, in Meriden. He died Sept. 10, 1990.

Survivors include a son, Dean Cook, Ozawkie; a daughter, Mellanie A. Drake, Topeka; four brothers, Harold Fries, Springfield, Mo., Darrell Eugene Fries and John Maynard Fries, both of Topeka, and Robert Adair Fries, Minneapolis, Minn.; four sisters, Theresa Boyd, Esther Weider and Maxine Vogel, all of Topeka, and Irene West, Meriden; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Aloysious Catholic Church in Meriden. Burial will be in Meriden Cemetery. Relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Barnett Meriden Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and sent in care of the funeral chapel.

Dorothy Daugharthy

OTTAWA --- Dorothy F. Daugharthy, 77, Ottawa, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at an Ottawa hospital.

Mrs. Daugharthy and her husband owned and operated Dairy Queen stores from 1951 to 1992. They began the business in Paola and later opened two in Ottawa and another one in Garnett. She earlier had worked for the Montgomery Ward Co. in Larned.

She was born March 22, 1922, in Larned, the daughter of James Harrison and Hazel Browning Robertson. She was raised in Larned and graduated from Larned High School in 1941. She had lived in Ottawa since 1962.

Mrs. Daugharthy was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ottawa, where she taught Sunday school and was involved with United Methodist Women. She also was a volunteer with the auxiliary to Ransom Memorial Hospital.
