Rural to host top wrestlers

Some of Kansas' top-rated wrestling teams and a perennial Missouri powerhouse will be at Washburn Rural today for a tournament featuring all dual matches.
Helias High School of Jefferson City, Mo., which has finished either first or second in its Missouri division in 15 of the past 17 seasons, headlines the tournament field that includes Kansas powers Blue Valley North, Valley Center and Columbus. City entries Rural and Highland Park will join Santa Fe Trail, which features three-time Class 4A champion Jeremy Long, along with Lawrence Free State, Olathe East, Shawnee Mission West and Winfield in the 12-team field.
Teams will wrestle duals in four, three-team pools beginning at 9 a.m. The pool winners will be placed on a four-team semifinal bracket with the final duals scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
