George Duley

JUNCTION CITY --- George Thomas Duley, 57, Junction City, died Saturday, July 22, 2000, in Topeka.

Mr. Duley served in the Army from 1961 to 1982 and retired at the rank of E-7. He was a Vietnam War veteran. He also served in France and Germany. He was decorated with the Bronze Star with two oak leaf clusters, Army commendation medal with oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct medal with six oak leaf clusters, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Overseas ribbon, Overseas Medal, South Vietnamese Campaign Civil Action Award and the South Vietnamese Cross for gallantry with oak leaf cluster with unit citation. He worked in civil service at Fort Riley Admission until 1996 and was an assistant coach and librarian at St. Xavier Catholic School from 1997 to 1999.

He was born Nov. 10, 1942, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of George William and Eulah Grace Sager Duley. He attended college in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Mr. Duley was a member of St. Xavier Catholic Church, Lions Sundowners, American Federation of Government Employees and Knights of Columbus.

He married Carol Ann Sohn on Oct. 22, 1969, in Mitchell, S.D. She survives.

Other survivors include three sons, Tom Staggs, in Indiana, Donald Martin Duley, in Colorado, and Charles Jenkins Jr., Manhattan; three daughters, Sally Jones, in Indiana, Beth Ann Duley, in Ohio, and Donna Day, in Nebraska; two brothers, Miles Duley, in Georgia, and Samuel Duley, in Ohio; a sister, Kathryn Kopping, in Iowa; and five grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday at St. Xavier Catholic Church. Cremation followed the services. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Xavier Catholic School Activities Committee, 200 N. Washington, Junction City, 66441.

Grace Frakes

HIGHLAND --- Grace Lee Frakes, 72, Highland, died Sunday, July 23, 2000, at a Highland nursing home.

She was born Dec. 10, 1927, in Highland, the daughter of Jesse L. and Nelle L. Morley Lininger. She graduated from Highland High School and Highland Community College.

Mrs. Frakes was a teller at Farmers State Bank in Highland for 17 years and then a director. She later was a bookkeeper at Highland Community College for 10 years. Mrs. Frakes was a member of Bellevue United Methodist Church and Highland Progressive Club.

She married Robert Frakes on Sept. 12, 1953, in Leona. He survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Melissa Baity, Manhattan; a son, Paul Frakes, Lawrence; a brother, Jesse B. Lininger, Kansas City, Mo.; and two granddaughters.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Bellevue United Methodist Church in Leona. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Highland Ambulance Fund, Highland Cemetery or Bellevue United Methodist Church and sent in care of Highland Mortuary.

Vernon Geissler

LAWRENCE --- Vernon Victor Geissler, 80, Lawrence, died Monday, July 24, 2000, at a Lawrence hospital.

Mr. Geissler was the director of placement at The University of Kansas from 1976 until he retired in 1988.

Services will be announced by the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

Hubert Germann

BURLINGTON --- Hubert "Butch" Germann, 83, Burlington, died Monday, July 24, 2000, at a Burlington hospital.

Mr. Germann was a modification mechanic for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita from 1942 until he retired in 1976. He earlier farmed near Strawn with his father and worked for Place Dairy.

He was born Aug. 12, 1916, in Strawn, the son of William E. and Pearl Irene McGhenn Germann. He attended the "Swamp College" rural school near Strawn.

Mr. Germann was a member of the United Methodist Church in Burlington and the Coffey County Skampers camping club.

He married Ruby M. Kellum on Nov. 15, 1939, in Burlington. She preceded him in death Jan. 11, 1989. He later married Violet Lewis Czirr on Aug. 12, 1989, in Burlington. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, David Germann, Andover, and John Germann, Wichita; a daughter, Judith Kay Bryan, Burlington; a stepdaughter, Judy Williams, Topeka; a brother, Ernest Germann, Emporia; five sisters, Beulah Stutesman, Emporia, Isabelle Bruce, Harrisonville, Mo., Virginia Hollar, Reading, LaVerne Holscher, Broken Arrow, Okla., and Leota Simon, Ottumwa; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Burlington. Burial will be in Bowman-Adgate Cemetery northwest of Burlington. Mr. Germann will lie in state today at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington, where visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Burlington United Methodist Church and sent in care of the funeral home.

Guy Hartley

WASHINGTON --- Guy E. Hartley, 77, Washington, died Sunday, July 23, 2000, at a Linn nursing home.

Mr. Hartley was a laborer.

He was born Sept. 30, 1922, in Tecumseh, Neb., the son of Rufus P. and Sarah Hazen Hartley.

Survivors include a brother, Perry Hartley, Washington; and three sisters, Elizabeth Matthews and Donetta Crane, both of Fairbury, Neb., and Martha Polage, Marysville.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at Prospect Hill Cemetery north of Blue Rapids.
