Luther Stansell
LAWRENCE --- Luther V. Stansell, 72, Lawrence, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, at his home.
He was born July 9, 1928, in Wharton, Ark., the son of George Wesley and Rhoda Bowman Stansell. He lived in Lawrence many years and was a client of Cottonwood Inc., where he was involved in the retirement program.
Mr. Stansell also was involved in the REACH Program at St. John's Catholic Church. He received an award for his painting from InterHab.
Survivors include his mother, Rhoda Stansell, Nortonville; seven sisters, Alpha Cohoon, Lawrence, Jean Langworthy, Silver Lake, Eva Lee Whitecotton, Yampa, Colo., Irma Sweet, Waterville, Rita Navinsky and Margaret Schuler, both of Nortonville, and Kay Emmerich, Lawrence; and two brothers, Jim Stansell, Lecompton, and Frank Stansell, Valley Falls.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Nortonville Cemetery. Relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the mortuary in Lawrence and from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at O'Trimble Funeral Home in Nortonville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Residential Alternatives Inc. and sent in care of the mortuary.
Eberhard Steinlage
KELLY --- Eberhard B. Steinlage, 88, formerly of Kelly, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, at a Sacramento, Calif., hospital.
Mr. Steinlage was an electrician for Yuba, Calif., Consolidated Gold Fields and later worked for Woodleaf Box and Lumber Co. as head electrician. He also worked in San Diego for Convair Astronautics, which became General Dynamics, and for the American Beauty Pasta Co. in Fresno, Calif., where he helped install machinery. He earlier taught school and worked for the Purity Grocery chain. He served in the Army and the Air Corps during World War II.
He was born March 7, 1912, on a farm southeast of Kelly, the son of Joseph and Agnes Niehues Steinlage. He was raised near Kelly. He graduated from St. Benedict's College in Atchison. He had lived in Coon Rapids, Minn., and then Seneca before he moved to Sacramento in April this year.
Mr. Steinlage was a former member of St. Bede's Church at Kelly and the Knights of Columbus.
He married Irene Burns in 1943. They were divorced.
Survivors include a son, Bernard "Ben" Steinlage, Coon Rapids, Minn.; two daughters, Christine Forte, Orangeville, Calif., and Carol Bly, Folsom, Calif.; three brothers, Frank Steinlage, Aloysius Steinlage and Benedict "Ben" Steinlage, all of Corning; a sister, Mary Steinlage, Kelly; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Bede's Church at Kelly. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Bede's Cemetery.
Althea Taylor
BALDWIN CITY --- Althea Taylor, 76, Baldwin City, died Monday, July 31, 2000, at a Lawrence hospital.
Mrs. Taylor was a cook at the Baldwin City Grade School for 14 years and later was a part-time cook at Baker University.
She was born March 24, 1924, in Downey, Mo., the daughter of Daisy Grace and Field Albin. She was raised at Medicine Lodge and attended Medicine Lodge schools. She had lived in Portland, Ore., and Mountain Home, Ark., before she moved to Baldwin City in 1952.
She married Roy C. Taylor on April 6, 1940, in Baxter County, Ark. He preceded her in death Sept. 18, 1978.
Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Ann Pollard, Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Cheryl Robinson, Baldwin City; three sons, Gary Taylor, Mike Taylor and Ike Taylor, all of Baldwin City; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Ives Chapel in Baldwin City. Burial will be in Oak Wood Cemetery in Baldwin City. Mrs. Taylor will lie in state after 9 a.m. today at Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home in Baldwin City, where visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Baldwin City Care Center and sent in care of the funeral home.
Terri Jo
Taylor-Tuthill
HOLTON --- Terri Jo Taylor-Tuthill, 38, formerly of Holton, died Monday, July 31, 2000, at a Pittsburg hospital.
She was born Aug. 10, 1961, at St. Joseph, Mo., the daughter of Allin Dale and Joy Hale Taylor. She attended Holton High School and graduated from Southard School in Topeka.
She married Booth Tuthill on Nov. 8,1991, at Miami, Okla. He survives.
Other survivors include her mother, Joy Taylor, Holton; two brothers, Allin Taylor Jr., Austin, Texas, and Steve Taylor, Holton; a sister, Sherri Childs, Holton; a grandmother, Ida Hale, Greenfield, Iowa; and a stepgrandmother, Ida Taylor, Nevada, Mo.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Holton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Crawford County Mental Health Center and sent in care of the funeral home.

HIGHLAND --- Minnie Ellen Walton, 103, Highland, died Monday, July 31, 2000, at a Highland care center.
