Mrs. Walton and her husband farmed near Highland until 1980.

She was born Feb. 28, 1897, at Highland, the daughter of Adam and Rachel Anna Landrum Dittemore. She attended the Wolf River Country School near Highland and later taught school there for a year. She was a lifelong Highland resident.

Mrs. Walton was a member and deaconess of Highland Christian Church and a member and past worthy matron of Vanderslice Chapter No. 452 of the Order of Eastern Star in Highland.

She married Paul J. Walton on July 24, 1916, in Highland. He preceded her in death July 19, 1990. Mrs. Walton also was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Pauline Walton, and a grandson, Larry Simpson.

Survivors include a son, Paul Dean Walton, Highland; four daughters, Phyllis Walton, Atchison, Alma Simpson Sisk, Topeka, Lenore Snapp, Mission, Texas, and Juanita Ausmus, Milwaukee, Ore.; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great- grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Highland Christian Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Mrs. Walton will lie in state today at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland, where visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association and sent in care of the funeral home.
