Golf --- Joan Donovan continued her solid play, placing third at Tuesday's St. Marys Invitational with an 81. Rossville was third as a team with a 396, also getting a sixth-place finish from Judy Sage (91).
Volleyball --- The Bulldogs, ranked No. 3 in Class 2A by the KVCA, picked up another Mid-East League sweep Tuesday against Mission Valley.
Royal Valley
Cross country --- Royal Valley's boys and girls teams both placed fourth at Tuesday's Holton Invitational.
Volleyball --- Royal Valley dropped a pair of matches to Nemaha Valley and Sabetha in Big Seven League play. Mollee Tuck had eight assists against Sabetha and Josie Pahmahmie added four blocks.
Santa Fe Trail
Cross country --- The Chargers' Courtney Thompson placed 10th at the McBurney Invitational, leading the way for Trail. Erika Kraus was 17th, as was Randy Kohn for the Charger boys. At Tuesday's Holton Invitational, the Charger boys placed second with 71 points and the girls were fifth.
Golf --- Chelsey Schlotterback's 95 was good enough for a 10th- place finish at Tuesday's St. Marys Invitational. The Chargers were eighth with a 463.
Volleyball --- For the second time in as many outings, Trail went 1-2 at home. The Chargers fell to Emporia for the second time this season and also lost to Seaman before beating Ottawa.
Silver Lake
Volleyball --- Ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, Silver Lake stayed unbeaten with Tuesday's Mid-East League sweep of Riley County. The Eagles dropped just 19 points in four games. The JV and freshman teams also posted sweeps, both squads coming off weekend tournament titles. "We are playing well on all levels," said Eagles coach Angie Bittner, whose team will be tested Sept. 23 at the Seaman Invitational.
St. Marys
Golf --- Rebecca Reese fired a 7-over-par 77 to win Tuesday's St. Marys Invitational, held at Western Hills in Topeka. Heather Mergenmeier was seventh with a 93, helping the Bears to a runner-up team finish with a 389, two strokes behind Gardner-Edgerton.
Volleyball --- The defending Class 3A champions are ranked No. 4 in the first KVCA poll.
Valley Falls
Volleyball --- Valley Falls avenged a weekend loss to Jackson Heights on Tuesday, taking a 15-3, 15-11 win.
Wabaunsee
Cross country --- Keen Umbehr's fourth-place finish helped the Charger boys to a ninth-place finish in the Class 3-2-1A section of Saturday's Wamego Invitational. "The boys have a young team. I think their performance is going to be a boost to morale and an extra incentive to work harder."
Volleyball --- Jamie Zeller, Pam Roth and Trish Ginavan combined for 17 kills as the Chargers went 1-3 at Saturday's Riley County Invitational. Wabaunsee's lone win was against Clifton-Clyde. Gretchen Gehrt averaged 4.5 kills per game in the tourney.
Other area league notes
Mid-East --- NORTHERN HEIGHTS made a statement that it is still a contender in 3A, sweeping the Class 3-2-1A division of the Wamego Invitational. The Wildcat girls scored 57 points to beat Mission Valley by 42, getting top-10 efforts from Amy VanGundy (fourth), Kari Robidou (eighth) and Morgan Howard (10th). Heights' boys edged Riley County 79-88 as Justin Johnson captured individual medalist honors with a winning time of 17:13.77. Garett Frank (eighth) also was in the top 10.
