RILEY COUNTY's Erin Mortimer blew away the field at Wamego, winning the girls' race in 12:02.06. Melissa Visser was ninth, while Luke Sigle's sixth led the boys.

Lyon County --- OLPE freshman Michelle Stueve enjoyed a stellar debut at Wamego, finishing third in 12:49.84. Sophomore teammate Allison Samuels was seventh. Dustin Ballinger was 10th.

Aaron Kennedy of MADISON was runner-up in the boys' race, finishing 38 seconds behind Heights' Justin Johnson.

LEBO had its girls' cross country team take second at the McBurney Invitational with Nichole Combes pacing the finish by taking fourth. Skye Egan, Scarlett Colstrom and Casey Strawder were in the top 20.

The Wolves' volleyball team, ranked No. 5 in Class 1A, opened the season with 10 straight wins before falling to Sacred Heart on Tuesday. The Wolves won the Eureka Invitational last Saturday, beating the host Chargers in three games.
