Weather forces postponements

Friday night's thunderstorms forced the postponement of at least four area football games.

Rossville was supposed to play at Northern Heights in Allen, but that game has been rescheduled for 7 tonight at Northern Heights.

Santa Fe Trail (1-2) was scheduled to meet Basehor-Linwood in Carbondale, but the Chargers and Bobcats now will clash at 7 p.m. Monday at Trail.

Olpe's game at Burlingame will be made up Monday.

Also, Frankfort at Lyndon was called Friday, with kickoff rescheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Marais des Cygnes Valley led Hartford 14-13 with 49 seconds left in the first quarter when that game was postponed. It will resume at 6 p.m. Monday.

Rock Creek 35, Riley County 0

SAINT GEORGE --- Rock Creek scored twice in the first quarter and twice in the last quarter to roll past Riley County.

Rock Creek's first-quarter scoring came on two touchdown passes by sophomore quarterback Jake Smith. Senior wingback Paul O'Neil carried 19 times for 128 yards and scored twice in the fourth quarter.

"It was a team effort," Rock Creek coach Scott Harshbarger said. "They're really the best team we've faced all year by far. To shut them out just tickled us to death."

A big factor in moving their record to 4-0 was Rock Creek's ability to control the ball against the Falcons.

"We marched the ball downfield in the first quarter into the wind," Harshbarger said. "We took nearly all the quarter for that drive and kept their offense off the field."

The stingy Mustangs defense allowed Riley County only 152 yards in the game.
