Lawrence Anderson Sr.

Lawrence R. Anderson Sr., 81, Topeka, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at a Topeka nursing home.

Mr. Anderson was a grounds supervisor for Topeka Unified School District 501 for 34 years before he retired in 1982. He also owned and operated his own custodial service. He served in the Army in Germany and France.

He was born Sept. 18, 1919, in Silver Lake, the son of James H. and Ruth Locke Anderson. He attended Topeka High School and lived most of his life in Topeka.

Mr. Anderson was Presbyterian.

He married Nina Leona Sims on Dec. 21, 1938, in Topeka. She survives.

Other survivors include four sons, Lawrence R. Anderson Jr., Topeka, Gary R. Anderson, Grand Junction, Colo., Jerry Anderson, Simi Valley, Calif., and Terry Anderson, Chicago; three daughters, Barbara Gilfillan and Wendy Brown, both of Topeka, and Karen L. Brown, Blue Springs, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Cremation is planned. No services are scheduled. Inurnment will be at a later date. Mr. Anderson will lie in state after noon today at Penwell-Gabel Highland Chapel, where visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Rescue Mission, 600 N. Kansas Ave., Topeka, 66608.

Oliver Burns

Oliver J. Burns, 82, Springdale, Ark., died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at a Springdale hospital.

Mr. Burns was a massage therapist at the Topeka YMCA for 46 years.

He was born Oct. 27, 1917, in Alva, Okla., the son of Jack and Leoria May Tatro Burns. He moved to Springdale from Topeka about a month ago.

He married Rose Mendoza on Feb. 1, 1958. She survives.

Other survivors include a stepson, David Slauson, Springdale; a brother, Clayton Burns, Medicine Lodge; a sister, Geraldine Pippin, Augusta; and two stepgrandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid- Town Chapel. Inurnment was in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka YMCA Youth Fund and sent in care of Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale.

Albert Cline

Albert L. Cline, 89, Topeka, died Monday, Sept. 26, 2000, at a Topeka hospital.

Mr. Cline owned and operated Spic and Span Janitorial Co. for many years, and he had worked for Commercial Candy Co. in Topeka.

He was born Oct. 30, 1910, in Topeka, the son of Lester and Dora King Cline. He attended Topeka Public Schools and was a lifelong Topeka resident.

Mr. Cline was a member of Victory Tabernacle Church.

He married Rosa Faye Ginter on Sept. 21, 1940, in St. Joseph, Mo. She preceded him in death on July 9, 1980.

Survivors include a son, Harry A. Cline, Topeka; a daughter, Sharon S. May, Topeka; five grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Parker-Price Mortuary. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Cline will lie in state after 1 p.m. today at the mortuary.

Gladys Ewbank

Gladys L. Ewbank, 95, Topeka, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at a Topeka retirement center.

Mrs. Ewbank taught school in various northeast Kansas high schools for 18 years, and she taught at William Woods College at Fulton, Mo., for 14 years. She was an associate professor of English at Washburn University from 1961 until she retired in 1971.

She was born Aug. 18, 1905, in Sharpe, the daughter of W.R. and Anna Stukey Laughery. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1923. She earned a bachelors degree from Baker University in 1929 and a master's degree from The University of Kansas in 1938.

Mrs. Ewbank was a member of First United Methodist Church, the American Association of University Women, Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

She married J. Parker Ewbank on June 1, 1926, in Sharpe. He preceded her in death Aug. 20, 1926.

Survivors include two sisters, Lorene H. Laughery, Topeka, and Latha Traue, Idaho Falls, Idaho; and a brother, Lloyd Laughery, Eagle Grove, Iowa.

Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Assisted Living Chapel in Aldersgate Village. Inurnment in Graceland Cemetery in Coffey County will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to Aldersgate Village, 7220 S.W. Asbury Drive, Topeka, 66614; or to the First United Methodist Church, 600 S.W. Topeka Blvd., Topeka, 66603.

Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Floyd Heath

Memorial services will be at noon today at the All Faiths Chapel at Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center for Floyd Louis Heath, 72, Topeka. He died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at a Topeka hospital.

Mr. Heath was a mailer for Stauffer Publications for more than 20 years before he retired. He also was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He was born Dec. 9, 1927, in Eudora, the son of Clarence and Myrtle Faye Wells Heath.

Mr. Heath was a member of the Catholic Church.

He married Dorothy Mae Schwartz Heath. She survives.

Other survivors include three daughters, Regina Marie Heath-Koss, Wichita, Kandie Peasley, Memphis, Tenn., and Connie Jean Heath, Topeka; a stepson, John Thomas Davis, Topeka; a brother, Delbert Todd Heath, Topeka; and three grandchildren.
