Burlingame

Football --- Tyler Parsons became the first Bearcat runner in recent history to top 1,000 yards in a season. His 203-yard performance in Friday's 52-22 loss to Lyndon allowed Parsons to top the mark.

Holton

Cross country --- Chris Schuetz will be the Wildcats' lone representative at Saturday's Class 4A state meet in Wamego after placing 10th at the Hayden regional in 17 minutes, 24 seconds. Holton was seventh as a team. The top girls' finisher was Heather Sneden, who missed out on a state berth by one spot with a 16th-place showing.

Jackson Heights

Cross country --- The Heights boys finished runner-up to Kansas City Christian at the Hayden regional, scoring 74 points to finish 19 back. Mitch Bagby placed seventh in 18 minutes, 2 seconds, while Chris Holliday (12th), Andy Fenton (15th) and Paul Koci (16th) also were in the top 20. Lindsay Wilhelm, who placed 13th, missed out on a state berth by one place.

Volleyball --- Heights advanced to the championship match of the 2A sub-state at Wathena, but were denied a trip to state by the top- seeded hosts. The Cobras (16-16) fell 15-10, 15-8 after beating McLouth and Jefferson North in straight games to reach the final.

Jefferson West

Cross country --- The Tiger boys took sixth at the Hayden 4A regional, scoring 163 points. Derek Cozadd's 21st-place showing paced the effort.

Volleyball --- Jeff West's quest for a state tournament berth fell one win short as the Tigers were knocked off in the finals of last Saturday's Hayden sub-state. Jeff West finished with a 26-8 record after falling to Hayden 15-5, 15-7 in the finals.

Lyndon

Cross country --- One person shy of a full team, Lyndon did the next best thing, qualifying three of its four girls for Saturday's 3A state meet in Wamego. Sisters Desiraye and Jesi Osburn finished 3-4, just three seconds apart. Paige Richister also secured a state berth, taking 13th. The Tigers also will send Tim Cox to state after he placed fifth in 16:28.

General --- Senior Caleb Knoernschild was one of 10 boys' finalists in Kansas for the Wendy's High School Heisman.

Marais des Cygnes Valley

General --- Senior Kelli Burkdoll was named as one of 10 girls' finalists in Kansas for the Wendy's High School Heisman.

Mission Valley

Cross country --- With five of its six runners posting personal bests, the Vikings girls pushed Northern Heights at the 3A regional at Central Heights. Blair Spencer won the race by 12 seconds with her best time (11 minutes, 41 seconds). Tina Todd was seventh in 12:22, moving her to fourth on the Vikings' all-time list. Sarah (14th) and Annie Browning (15th) also jumped into the top 14 all-time.

"Even though we did not win regionals, we should be very happy with our overall effort and performance," coach Alan Webb said. "We still have a chance to obtain one of the goals that we set at the beginning of the year."

The Viking boys just missed out on making it to state, placing fourth with 78 points --- 18 behind Wellsville. Ryan Patrick did secure an individual berth, placing 11th in 17:15, and six of the Vikings set personal bests.

Volleyball --- The Vikings were ousted by Rossville in the first round of sub-state play, ending the season 5-23.

Rossville

Volleyball --- Rossville's stellar season came to a heartbreaking end Saturday at the 3A sub-state at Silver Lake. The Bulldogs cruised into the finals, but fell to the host Eagles in three games, falling 16-14 in the decisive game. Rossville finished 31-3 on the season.

Royal Valley

Cross country --- The Panther boys finished runner-up to Sabetha at the Horton 3A regional, scoring 71 points to edge Oskaloosa by two. Kyle Taylor's fourth-place showing was the only in the top 10, but Denton Lambrecht and Matt May were in the top 20.

Ashley Chapman ran away with the girls' individual title, finishing in 12 minutes, 57 seconds for a 10-second win. Laura Thurman was fourth, but the Panther girls could only manage fifth.

Volleyball --- The Panthers ended the season with a 7-21 record after falling to St. Marys in the first round of the Silver Lake sub- state.

Santa Fe Trail

Volleyball --- The Chargers won't be able to defend their Class 4A crown, getting knocked out in the semifinals of the Hayden sub-state by the host Wildcats. Santa Fe Trail finished with a 20-14 mark.

Silver Lake

Cross country --- Brian Dieker's seventh-place finish at the Horton 3A regional punched his ticket to Saturday's state meet in Wamego. Dieker was 30 seconds off the pace, finishing in 18:07. Tara Hamilton was 22nd in the girls' race.

Volleyball --- Silver Lake will be looking for its second Class 3A title in three years this weekend in Salina. The Eagles survived a grueling three-game sub-state championship match with rival Rossville, pulling out the 15-12, 5-15, 16-14 win. Silver Lake (30- 4) will be the No. 4 seed at Salina and take on No. 5 Phillipsburg at 4:30 p.m., No. 8 Erie at 6:30 p.m. and No. 1 Conway Springs at 7:30 p.m.

St. Marys

Volleyball --- After eliminating Silver Lake last year, the Bears had the tables turned this year as the Eagles ended St. Marys season in the sub-state semifinals. The defending 3A champs finished with a 21-11 mark.
