Roy Anderson

CLAY CENTER --- Roy Merill Anderson, 80, Clay Center, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2000, at a Clay Center medical center.

Mr. Anderson was a farmer.

He was born Jan. 29, 1920, in Clay County, the son of John Emil and Birdie Bergstrom Anderson.

Mr. Anderson was a member of the Hayes United Methodist Church, O.E.S. and Masonic Lodge in Clay Center and Wakefield and Isis Shrine Temple of Salina.

He married Diana Gants on Feb. 14, 1943, in Melvern. She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Janis Anderson, Lawrence; a son, Charles Anderson, Topeka; a brother, Harold Anderson, Clay Center; and one grandson.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Clay Center. Burial will be in Hayes Cemetery in Clay County. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Neill Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital.

Margaret Borak

LAWRENCE --- Memorial services for Margaret J. Borak, Lawrence, are pending and will be announced by Warren-McElwain Mortuary of Lawrence.

Mrs. Borak died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at a Kansas City, Kan. hospital.

Ralph Brull

HAYS --- Ralph Brull, 92, Hays, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at a Hays medical center.

Mr. Brull was a farmer.

He was born Oct. 22, 1908, in Ellis County, the son of Jacob G. and Anna B. Befort Brull.

Mr. Brull was a member of the St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church of Hays.

He married Pauline Schmidt on Oct. 12, 1931, at Hays. She died Sept. 14, 1995. An infant son and an infant great-granddaughter also preceded him in death.

Survivors include three daughters, Geraldine Pfeifer, Phyllis Schuster and Susan Billinger, all of Hays; four brothers, Robert Brull, Hays, Gabe Brull, Kansas City, Mo., Elmer Brull, Houston, and Willis Brull, Salina; three sisters, Bernadine Flaherty, Wichita, Martina Brull, Las Vegas, and Philomene Lowe, Topeka; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Hays. A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. and a parish vigil service will be at 7 p.m. today at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Friends may call the funeral home from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Monday.

Memorial contributions in his name may be sent to St. John's of Victoria Nursing Home.

William Halleran

LAWRENCE --- William J. "Red" Halleran, 81, Lawrence, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, in Baton Rouge, La., while visiting family.

Mr. Halleran was a court reporter for Division No. 1 of Douglas County District Court in Lawrence for many years. He was a former court reporter in district court in Chanute and formerly was a realtor in Somerville, Mass. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served in France, Belgium and Germany.

He was born Jan. 18, 1919, in Somerville, Mass., the son of William J. and Clara E. Norton, Halleran. He had lived in Lawrence since 1965 after moving from Chanute. He had lived for many years in the Boston area.

Mr. Halleran was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence and the Lawrence Kiwanis Club. He also was an honorary member of the Douglas County Bar Association, a volunteer at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and a member of the Senior Golf Club at the Orchards Golf Course in Lawrence.

He married Rose M. Jennings on March 25, 1942 in Somerville, Mass. She preceded him in death on May 8, 1990. He also was preceded in death by a granddaughter.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. William J. Halleran III, Overland Park and Michael A. Halleran, Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Joanne M. McMullen, Greenwell Springs, La., and Ginny Elias, Atchison; two sisters, C. Marie Walsh, Arlington, Mass., and Grace Reino, Londonderry, N.H.; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lawrence. A parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

The family suggests memorial contributions in his name to Cancer Action in Kansas City, Kan., and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

John Hook

OTTAWA --- John W. Hook, 62, Ottawa, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at an Ottawa hospital.

Funeral arrangements are pending with Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home in Ottawa.

James U. Hubert

EMPORIA --- James U. Hubert, 59, Emporia, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Hubert was a Pepsi-Cola route salesman for 15 years before he retired in 1994.

He was born Dec. 28, 1940, in Concordia, the son of Arthur U. and Gretta Eakins Hubert.

Mr. Hubert was a member of the Emporia Memorial Post No. 7957, Veterans of Foreign Wars and served in the U.S. Navy. He survived 12 years following a heart transplant on May 26, 1988.

He married Linda L. McDaniel on May 22, 1966, in Emporia. She survives.
