Paul Lundholm

WHITE CITY --- Paul H. Lundholm, 71, White City, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Lundholm was a retired machinist.

He was born Dec. 15, 1928, in Sparland, Ill., the son of Elmer E. and Mahalia Nelson Lundholm.

He married Beulah Shandy on Nov. 28, 1958, in Chillicothe, Ill. She survives.

Other survivors include four sons, Thomas Lundholm, Crete, Neb., Elmer Lundholm, Junction City, Paul Lundholm, Junction City, and Gary Lundholm, Wilber, Neb.; four daughters, Lola Swisher, Marysville, Kathy Wild, California, Elizabeth Lundholm, Junction City, and Milla McCammon, Faucett, Mo.; two sisters, Dorothy Pagano, Rockford, Ill., and Lillian Swatzell, Salt Lake City, Utah; and 14 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Junction City.

Nelson Sorrells

MANKATO --- Nelson D. Sorrells, 86, Mankato, died Oct. 28, 2000, at a Phillipsburg hospital.

Mr. Sorrells was employed by the city of Phillipsburg until he retired in 1976.

He was born May 18, 1914, in Blair, Okla., the son of Joseph K. and Belle Hawkins Sorrells. He graduated from the first consolidated school district in Oklahoma in May 1933. He attended Oklahoma A&M at Stillwater, Okla., for two years.

During the war, Mr. Sorrells moved to Wichita and worked in an aircraft factory. He moved to Mankato in 1950 and worked for McCarthy Hardware and L&B Electric. He moved to Phillipsburg in June 1957 and worked for Kolb Electric. In 1980, he moved back to Mankato.

Mr. Sorrells was a member of the Mankato Christian Church.

He married Doris Atkins in 1934. She preceded him in death. He married Mary Vader Seamans on Feb. 18, 1950. She also preceded him in death. A daughter, Darlene Bascombe, preceded him in death.

Survivors include two brothers, Lester Sorrells, Fullerton, Calif., and Joe Sorrells, Anderson, Calif.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Mankato Christian Church in Mankato. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Monday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mankato Christian Church.

Melby Mortuary in Mankato is in charge of arrangements.

Lucy Welch

HERINGTON --- Lucy L. Welch, 92, Herington, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at a Herington hospital.

Mrs. Welch began working as a third-grade teacher at Elkhart and later was a bookkeeper for her husband at Welch Manufacturing in Herington.

She was born Feb. 19, 1908, in Clearville, Pa., the daughter of Aric C. and Rachel Carns Snyder. She graduated from Elkhart High School with the class of 1925 and received her teaching certificate from Fort Hays State University.

Mrs. Welch was a member of Herington United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of Esther Chapter No. 96, Order of Eastern Star of Herington. She also was a member of Herington Country Club.

She married Merrel (Bud) V. Welch Sr. on June 1, 1930, at Wilburton. He preceded her in death on Sept. 5, 1983. A foster daughter, Helen Bates, also preceded her in death in 1996.

Survivors include a son, Merrill V. Welch Jr., Delavan; a daughter, Celia Bishop, Manhattan; a brother, Don Snyder, Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Esther Shelton, Kansas City, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
