Washburn Rural High School's band is having a fund-raiser through the end of January.

The WRHS Marching Junior Blues are asking people who drink Pepsi- Cola products to save the PepsiNotes on the packaging. The Notes can then be sent to Cliff Manning, band director, at WRHS, 5900 S.W. 61st, Topeka, Kan., 66619.

Pepsi Notes can be redeemed for new instruments, sheet music, equipment and music related software, according to the PepsiNotes Web site, http://www.pepsinotes.com.

Child care

Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene's youth group is sponsoring child care for infants though 8 years old so parents may do last- minute Christmas shopping. The church has a secured children's area, located at 3501 S.W. Wanamaker, that will be staffed with qualified adult and teen workers.

Dates and times are: Friday, Dec. 22 from 5 to 9 p.m. (dinner and activities), Saturday, Dec. 23, from 1 to 5 p.m. (snack and activities), and Sunday, Dec. 24 from 1 to 4 p.m. (snack and activities).

A donation of $20 for the first child and $30 for two or more children will help the youths with their fund-raising.

Celebration

The public is invited to attend the eighth annual worship celebration of Lessons and Carols on Dec. 17 at 8:30 and 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 1234 S.W. Fairlawn.

This traditional service of Nine Lessons with Carols was first performed at King's College Chapel in Cambridge, England, in 1918. The Lessons and Carols service includes an orchestra, special choral music, the singing of a variety of Advent and Christmas carols and the reading of nine Biblical passages relating to the birth of Jesus.
