Burlingame

Boys basketball --- The Bearcats fell to 4-9 overall and 2-6 in Lyon County League play with a 76-66 loss to Lebo on Tuesday.

Girls basketball --- Burlingame is now 1-12 and 0-8 after Tuesday's 75-29 loss to Lebo.

Holton

Wrestling --- Holton came up with 10 top-six finishers and managed a fifth-place finish at last weekend's St. Marys Invitational. Ryan Phillips was the only Wildcat in the finals and he improved to 16-0 on the season with a dominating 12-0 win over Rossville's Travis VanVleck at 145 pounds. Shawn Ostertag (125) and Chad Gerhardt (140) added fourths, Chris Dolezilek (152) and Ed Dunn (189) were both fifth and Scott Shankland (103), Blaine Rodgers (119), Adam Schuetz (160), Mike Gerhardt (171) and Tim DeBusk (275) all took sixth.

Jefferson West

Boys basketball --- Jefferson West's slump continued as the losing streak reached six with losses to Sabetha (68-54) Friday and Santa Fe Trail (45-42) in Tuesday's first round of the Baldwin Tournament. Jake Farrant had 17 points against Sabetha and 13 against Santa Fe Trail, while Dave Jensen added double figures in both games (13 and 11).

"We are struggling right now, but can only continue to work, stay positive and realize we have time and the opportunity to turn our season around," West coach Larry Latimer said.

Volleyball --- Karyn Berry has signed a letter of intent with Neosho County Community College.

Lyndon

Boys basketball --- The Tigers (9-1, 7-0) wrapped up their first Lyon County League title since 1995-96 with Tuesday's 46-35 win against rival Marais des Cygnes Valley. The game was tied 30-30 in the fourth quarter before the Tigers scored on five straight possessions, four of those 3-pointers. Kenny Moon led the effort with 12 points.

Marais des Cygnes Valley

Boys basketball --- The Trojans split a pair of Lyon County League games, beating Lebo 55-43 on Friday and falling to league champion Lyndon 46-35 on Tuesday. In the win over Lebo, MdCV (8-3, 5-2) went without a field goal in the fourth quarter, but came through with a 13-of-18 effort at the free throw line. Tidus Spencer was 7 of 11 at the line in the quarter and finished with 15 points. Dusty Wise added 11 points and scored 12 against Lyndon in a game that was tied 30-30 in the fourth quarter.

Girls basketball --- MdCV (7-4, 3-4) rebounded from Friday's 39- 29 loss to Lebo with a 67-51 win over Lyndon, handing the Tigers just their third loss. Kristen Lichtenauer and Melissa Scheele combined for 28 points in the victory and Lichtenauer leads the team at 11.2 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.

Mission Valley

Girls basketball --- The Vikings suffered losses to Riley County (74-33) and Herington (56-47) and dropped to 3-8 overall and 1-4 in league play. Lacey Childers leads the team at 18.7 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. "We are learning how to be competitive and be consistent with our effort," coach Seth Froese said. "We just have not been able to put together a good full 32 minutes."

Softball --- Three Vikings have signed letters of intent with Allen County Community College --- Jessie Pletcher, Danielle Bosworth and Lacey Johnston.

Rossville

Wrestling --- The Bulldogs did a lot with a little at last weekend's St. Marys Invitational, placing sixth with just six wrestlers posting top-six showings. Rossville had the most finalists (four), but only got one title. Cody Lambotte improved to 18-1 at 130 pounds with an 11-2 major decision over Sabetha's Andy Harrell. Chris Graves (112), Josh Gentry (140) and Travis VanVleck (145) all wound up with runner-up showings with Graves and Gentry getting pinned in their finals matches. Matt Creevan (125) and Brian Braden (135) added fourth-place efforts.

Royal Valley

Wrestling --- It was a productive weekend for the Panthers, who won their first St. Marys Invitational crown. Royal Valley had 10 top- six finishers, putting nine of those in the top four. Bobby Hegemann, who is ranked fifth at 215, captured the lone title by pinning KC Piper's Zach Davies.

Michael Tollefson added a second at 103, falling to Onaga's Alex Miller 2-1 in the finals. Josh Keehn (119), Steven Goodman (130), Robbie Smith (160), Joe Douglas (171) and Will Mitchell (189) all placed third, and Jeremy Johnson (112) and Dustin Schuh (145) took fourth. Bobby Slocum rounded out the Panthers' effort with a sixth at 152. Royal Valley scored 164 points, edging Sabetha by seven points.

Santa Fe Trail

Wrestling --- The Chargers enjoyed moderate success at last weekend's Newton Tournament of Champions, placing 14th out of 26 teams. Two Chargers came away with third-place finishes --- Jeremy Connelly, who went 6-1 at 130 pounds, and Cody Betsworth, who wrestled at 112. Travis McBurney (135) and Ryan Temple (152) each took seventh and Ryan Babbitt (171) was eighth.

"Newton exposed a lot of our weaknesses," said coach Regan Erickson, whose team wrestles today against Tonganoxie and KC Piper and Saturday at Washburn Rural's dual tournament. "If we have any more, they will be exposed Saturday at Washburn Rural."
