He was born May 22, 1936, in Marshall, Mich., the son of Carl and Eva D. Bower McAtee.

Mr. McAtee was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He married Marcia Blanche Losik on May 1, 1976, at Centerville, Mich. She died July 6, 1987.

Survivors include two sons, Bret McAtee, Charlotte, Mich., and Burt McAtee, Emporia; a daughter, Kerry Bartley, Syracuse, Ind.; and seven grandchildren.

Mr. McAtee was cremated. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church.

Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia is in charge of arrangements.

Martha Mundy

MANHATTAN --- Martha J. "Joan" Mundy, 77, formerly of Manhattan, died Monday, March 12, 2001, in Miami, Fla. She had suffered from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy the past 12 years.

Mrs. Mundy worked in civil service at Fort Riley in the 1950s.

She and her twin sister were born Feb. 23, 1924, in the kitchen of a home near Zeandale, delivered by two of her older sisters. She was the daughter of Garfield and Elizabeth Holloway Fair. She graduated from high school at St. George. She remained a lifelong fan of Kansas State University athletics even though she and her husband lived in 19 different homes on military posts in Munich and Augsburg, Germany, Beirut, Damascus, Syria, The Philippines, Washington, D.C., and many other U.S. bases. She lived in Manhattan from 1979 to 1987. She was commended by the Soviet government in 1964 for rescuing and sheltering eight Russian women and children during an internal upheaval in Damascus.

She married Angus Mundy on June 19, 1954, at Fort Riley. He survives.

Other survivors include three sons, John P. Mundy, Mission Hills, Lt. Col. James A. Mundy, Springfield, Va.; and Matthew W. Mundy, Miami, Fla.; a daughter, Martha Ann Mundy, Tokyo; a sister, Mary Ann Fair Lundberg, Kirksville, Mo.; and six grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at Seven Dolors Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Fort Riley Cemetery. A reception at the church will follow the burial. An earlier visitation will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Yorgensen- Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Society of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Inc., Woodholme Medical Building, Suite 515, 1838, Greene Tree Road, Baltimore, Md., 21208.

Orville Oard

ABILENE --- Orville O. Oard, 64, Abilene, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at an Abilene hospital.

Mr. Oard worked at the Safeway Grocery Store in Abilene from 1953 to 1963 and then at the Abilene Post Office from 1963 until he retired in 1996. He worked part-time for a NAPA Auto Parts Store in Abilene since he retired.

He was born April 29, 1936, in Mayfield, the son of Benjamin Harrison and Mabel Kissling Oard. He moved with his family to Abilene in 1950 and graduated from Abilene High School in 1954.

Mr. Oard was a member of First United Methodist Church in Abilene, where he served on several church committees, and he was a community leader for the Abilene Aggies 4-H Club. He also coached the Abilene Eagles softball team and served on the Abilene School Board from 1977 to 1985. He did volunteer work at the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame and the Abilene and Smoky Valley Railroad.
