Georgie Wessel
SENECA --- Georgie L. Wessel, 76, Seneca, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at a Topeka hospital. She had cancer.
Mrs. Wessel had been a cook at the Axtell Hospital and she also operated the City Cafe in Axtell. She later farmed with her husband southwest of Kelly until June 2000.
She was born March 8, 1925, in Decatur, Ark., the daughter of Noah B. and Helen June Walklin Reed. She lived in many communities while growing up as her father moved with various assignments from the railroad.
Mrs. Wessel was a member of St. Bede's Catholic Church in Kelly, the Altar Society at the church and the ladies auxiliary to the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1915 at Marysville. She also was an avid bird watcher.
She married Willis Kenworthy on Oct. 14, 1941, in Axtell. He died Sept. 17, 1953. She married Andrew Wessel on June 14, 1975, at Kelly. He survives.
Other survivors include two sons, George Kenworthy, Axtell, and David Kenworthy, Cooper, Texas; a daughter, Willa Lee Meiries, Axtell; three brothers, Jack Reed, Boise, Idaho, John Reed, Granby, Mo., and Charles Reed, Wichita; four sisters, Betty Black, Wilder, Idaho, Ella Mae Vansant, Claremore, Okla., Jimmy Banks and Nora Smith, both of Boise, Idaho; four grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Bede's Church in Kelly. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Bede's Church or to the American Cancer Society and sent in care of the family.
Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca is in charge of arrangements.
