Carlton joined the patrol in 1989 and was assigned road duties as a field trooper in Topeka. In 1999, he transferred to Topeka and assumed duties with the patrol's Troop G. As a master trooper, he continues to patrol the turnpike out of the Topeka area. Before joining the patrol, he was employed by Carlton Heating and Air Conditioning in Manhattan.

Home consultant opens business --- Fran Lusk has joined The Comforts of Home, 1400 S.W. Ward Parkway, as a consultant.

The business offers home decor products through parties and home shows. It also offers personal shopping.

CPA opens office --- Steven A. Ridpath, Tecumseh, has opened a certified public accounting practice in Topeka at 5605 S.W. Barrington Court, Suite 101.

Ridpath offers individual and business tax preparation, planning and consultation services for individuals and small businesses. He is a graduate of Baker University and Missouri Western State College and has been a CPA since 1991. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Engineering firm hires two --- Carla P. Anderson and Robyn B. Walter have joined Shafer, Kline & Warren, a regional engineering and planning firm in Kansas City, Mo.

Anderson is an engineering technician III in the transportation group. Her main responsibilities include highway design and plan preparation. Anderson has more than nine years experience in the areas of processing survey data and utility locations, as well as various right of way issues. Before joining SKW she spent time with Bartlett and West Engineering and the Kansas Department of Transportation. Anderson is working on a bachelor's degree in civil engineering at The University of Kansas.

Walter joins the firm as a programmer in the geographic information systems group. She will be responsible for building customized Internet and desktop GIS applications, as well as maintaining the corporate Internet. Walter is certified in Visual Basic and Web development at Conserva Inc. Before joining SKW, Walter was with American Century Investors.

Dillons promotes four --- Dillon Stores Division announces the promotions of Ryan Box, Jennifer Turner, "Grace" Chang-Hua Chang and Terry Chaffin.

Box has been promoted to bakery manager at the Dillons at S.W. Huntoon and Lane. He was hired as a courtesy clerk in 1993 at the Lawrence store and was a bakery clerk at the Lawrence location.

Turner has been promoted to scanning manager at the S.W. 29th and Topeka Boulevard store. Turner started in 1997 as a combo clerk at the S.W. Huntoon and Lane location and later was a scanning clerk at the S.W. 29th and Urish store.

Chang was named Chinese Kitchen manager at the S.W. 21st and Belle store. Before joining Dillons, she owned the China Garden restaurant in Topeka.

Chaffin was named market manager at the Dillons at S.W. Huntoon and Lane. Chaffin was hired as a meat cutter in 1995 at the S.W. 29th and Randolph store. Most recently, he was the designated second in market at the same location.
