Seaman High School celebrated Homecoming on Friday. Tyler McClellan, son of Jack and Jeannine McClellan, was crowned homecoming king, and Lyndsey Wickham, daughter of Rick Wickham and Vicki and Tim Sanders, was crowned homecoming queen. Also, SHS won its football game against Hayden High School 21-20.

Other homecoming queen candidates were: Briana Aboud, daughter of Carol Dreher and Brad Aboud; Angie Bohn, daughter of Dale and Edna Bohn; TeRee Ford, daughter of Marti and Lynn Ford; Ashley Hanes, daughter of Pete and Paula Hanes and Pam and Don Lake; and Ericka Schreiner, daughter of Leo and Robin Schreiner.

Other homecoming king candidates were: David Appelhanz, son of David and Diane Appelhanz; Nick Butler, son of LeRoy and Rita Butler; Steve DeForest, son of Jim and Kathryn DeForest; Kellan Eck, son of John and Becky Eck; and Scott Steinlage, son of Gary and Karen Steinlage.

The Halloween parade at North Fairview Elementary school will begin at 9:10 a.m. on Oct. 31.

Students will parade from room to room and through the gym for all to see. Parents and friends are welcome to come watch the activities.

Students will parade past the crowd for photos. Any preschool children may come parade with the students or at least come to the front of the gym to have their photos taken.

Halloween parties will be held at the end of the day before students head home.

East Indianola first-grade students are learning words in the Phonics Festival. Students on level one are: Taylor Mitchell, Mercedes Rosebrough, Justus Sharples, Ashley Shaw, Jacob Figgs, Alec Johnson and Tiernan McGlumphry.

Exercise for Elmont, a PTO fund-raiser, will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Students are getting pledges to raise money through the event.

Six different exercise activities will be going on at the same time at Exercise for Elmont. Students will rotate to each station and take turns resting and exercising. Activities include: soccer kick, Frisbee toss, funnel ball, jump ropes, bowling and softball toss.

Parents are donating cans of Coke, Diet Coke, Dr. Pepper or 7-Up for the event.

All parents, neighbors and friends are invited to join the students for pizza and pop after Exercise for Elmont. The PTO will sell pizza by the slice.

An Elmont PTO skating party will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 13.

West Indianola students qualifying for their school's 2001-2002 math team have been announced. They include the following:

Fourth grade --- Christopher Bervert, Stephanie Slimmer, Teslyn Vering, Erika Workman, Kelsey Waetzig, Steven Fletcher, Casey Carpenter, Cody Gebhart, Charlie Conn, Kaitlin Pukach, Allison Farr and Randi Richards.

Fifth grade --- Arianna Morgart, Jessica Barranco, Scott Huguenin, Evan Holmgren, Nick Puglisi, Stephanie Jones, Abbey Brown, Jean-Luc Chinai and Jordan Sackman.

Sixth grade --- Molly Ingam, Stevie Marcum, Elaine Davis, Rachel McCullah, Cody Hopper, Derek Turner, Corey Cowan, Alycia Noriega, Maddie Levier, Trent Speaker, Brace Turbot and Zach Carlson.

Team members will meet with Terri Anderson, the math team coach, once a week before school at 8 a.m. and participate in the Math Olympiad Contest quizzes once a month during school time.

West Indianola will participate in the Kmart School Spirit Program. In the program, registered participants will receive a card that can be scanned each time they visit the store and make a purchase. Whenever they shop there, one fourth of one percent of the total purchases will be given to the school the participant designates.

All Seaman district elementary students will receive a free "No Bullying Allowed" T-shirt free of charge to reinforce the district's commitment to treating people with respect and courtesy.

Some days, everyone will be asked to wear their shirts for assemblies and to show unity in stamping out bullying. All students were given order forms so parents could select the appropriate shirt size for their children.

Adults also can buy an "I Support No Bullying Allowed" shirts for a nominal fee. The fee pays for the adult shirt and one for a student.

This purchase isn't required.

The annual West Indianola Elementary Halloween parade will be at 9 a.m. on Oct. 31.

Students should come dressed in their Halloween costumes, which will be taken off as much as possible after the Halloween parties, which follow the parade. The parade is for West Indianola students only --- no pets.

Younger siblings may watch, but aren't to participate. Students are asked not to dress as characters that promote violence or to bring toy weapons of any kind.

Refreshments such as muffins or doughnuts and juice will be served at the parties. Candy bags may be taken home at the end of the day.

Students may wear their costumes, and parents who attend the parade may take the costumes home to avoid lost or forgotten articles.

A kindergarten through third-grade skating party for Pleasant Hill Elementary School two weeks ago attracted more than 200 students, parents and staff members, and raised $158.
