Barbara Evans

Barbara O. Evans, 88, Topeka, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at a Topeka nursing home.

She was born June 9, 1913, in Peoria, Ill., the daughter of Walter Charles and Matilda Huverstuhl Off.

Mrs. Evans was a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Cathedral in Peoria, Ill.

She married Robert D. Evans on Oct. 20, 1939, in Peoria, Ill. He died Feb. 16, 1999.

Survivors include a son, Ron Evans, Topeka; a daughter, Nancy Evans Gillis, Duluth, Minn.; and three grandchildren.

Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Frank Gladfelter Sr.

Frank E. Gladfelter Sr., 89, formerly of Topeka, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, in Lexington, Ky. He had a heart attack.

Mr. Gladfelter had been a foreman for McEntire Mattress Co. for 45 years before he retired.

He moved to Lexington, from Topeka several months ago.

Mr. Gladfelter was a 56-year member of Potwin Presbyterian Church, where he had served as a deacon and elder. He also did volunteer work at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center.

He married Ruth Coursey in 1936. She survives.

Other survivors include a son, F.E. "Sip" Gladfelter Jr., Lancaster, Ky.; a daughter, Janet Sipes, Yacolt, Wash.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Potwin Presbyterian Church. Inurnment at Mount Hope Cemetery will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to Potwin Presbyterian Church, 400 S.W. Washburn Ave., Topeka, 66606.

Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Leola Ketcherside

Leola Fern Ketcherside, 90, Topeka, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at a Topeka hospital.

Mrs. Ketcherside had been a Realtor for Town and Country Realtors for several years.

She was born July 3, 1911, near Larkinburg, the daughter of Harlan and Anna Beegle Green. She moved with her family to Topeka in 1921.

Mrs. Ketcherside was a member of Quivira Heights Church of Christ, a 50-year member of Topeka Chapter No. 462 of the Order of the Eastern Star and a 60-year member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Auxiliary.

She married Larsen "Rudy" Ketcherside on July 14, 1929, in Topeka. He died Jan. 24, 1985.

Survivors include a son, Jim Ketcherside, McPherson; a daughter, Lois Thompson, Oakdale, Calif.; a brother, Wilfred Green, Topeka; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat- grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Ketcherside will lie in state after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel, where visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Christ Scholarship and Charitable Trust, 800 E. Avenue A, McPherson, 67460; or to the Quivira Heights Church of Christ, 1718 S.W. Crest Drive, Topeka, 66604.

Barbara Lynn

Barbara Jean Lynn, 74, Topeka, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at a Topeka hospice house.

Mrs. Lynn had been a rate clerk and handled freight accounts for the Santa Fe Railway and later was an investment officer for the Santa Fe Credit Union.

She was born Nov. 17, 1926, in Topeka, the daughter of Frank Nelson and Hester Frazee Shortt.

Mrs. Lynn was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Santa Fe Old-Timers Club.

She married Warren K. Lynn on July 12, 1947, in Topeka. He died April 10, 1980. A stepgrandson, Taj Norris-Quarles, died April 14, 2001.

Survivors include two sons, David W. Lynn and Robert K. Lynn, both of Topeka; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery at a later date. No visitation is scheduled and the casket will remain closed at the service.

Helen Morse

Helen Morse, 89, Topeka, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at a Topeka nursing home.

Ms. Morse had been a secretary for Hallmark Cards in Topeka until she retired in 1988.

She was born Sept. 6, 1912, in Wakefield, the daughter of Charles and Helen Pocock Morse. She moved with her family to Topeka in the 1920s.

No immediate family members survive.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Ms. Morse will lie in state after noon Monday at the funeral chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Dr. Duff Wagoner Jr.

Dr. Duff D. Wagoner Jr., 84, Topeka, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at Aldersgate Village Health Care Center.

Dr. Wagoner was a retired United Methodist pastor. He served congregations in the Kansas East Conference of the United Methodist Church at Grenola, Thayer, Kansas City, Leavenworth, Baldwin City, Parsons, Chanute and Crestview United Methodist Church in Topeka. He also was chaplain at Aldersgate Village for 13 years after he retired from the active ministry.
