John Horn

John P. Horn, 43, Topeka, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Horn had worked at Dave's Repair Shop for 12 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1976 to 1979.

He was born Sept. 11, 1958, in Topeka, the son of Ernest and Susan Liston Horn. He graduated from Mission Valley High School in 1976.

Mr. Horn was a former member of St. John's Vianney Catholic Church, Eskridge.

Survivors include his parents, Ernest and Susan Horn, Topeka; five sisters, Rose M. Varvel, Waialua, Hawaii, Janet Kay Malone, Mary A. Foust and Brenda L. Sloop, all of Topeka, and Rita J. Horn, Sarasota, Fla.; and two brothers, David A. Horn and Thomas W. Horn, both of Topeka.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. John's Vianney Catholic Church, Eskridge. Burial will follow in Eskridge Cemetery. Crable Funeral Chapel, Eskridge, is in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the John P. Horn Memorial, to be designated later.

Dennis Jefferson

Dennis James Jefferson, 46, Topeka, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at a Topeka hospital.

Arrangements are pending at Bowser-Johnson Funeral Chapel.

Leslie Kendrick

Leslie Kendrick, 91, Topeka, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at a Topeka nursing home.

Mr. Kendrick worked for his father's taxi company, Kendrick Taxi Cab Co., in Topeka and later for the Yellow Cab Co. from 1945 to 1951. He then worked for the Air Force Supply Depot at Forbes Air Force Base and was transferred to Mobile, Ala. He later was sent to Tinker Field in Oklahoma and retired from Civil Service on Nov. 30, 1970. Before joining his father's cab company, he did farm work in the Flint Hills near Cottonwood Falls. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and saw duty in Europe during the Battle of the Bulge.

He was born Sept. 22, 1910, at Auburn, the son of Oscar Howard and Lena Mae Smythe Kendrick. He attended schools in Topeka.

Mr. Kendrick was a life member of Philip Billard VFW Post No. 1650, and received a 40-year emblem in 1987.

He married Ruby Etta Michaels on Nov. 10, 1951. She died in 1981.

Survivors include a sister, Lorene Kendrick Belcher, South Walpole, Mass.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Mount Hope Cemetery. Newcomer Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Martha Linscott

Martha D. Linscott, 84, Topeka, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at a Topeka retirement center.

She was born Dec. 3, 1916, in Topeka, the daughter of Dana and Helen Davis. She was a graduate of Stanford University.

Mrs. Linscott was a member of Junior League of Topeka and the Topeka Country Club.

She married M. Scott Linscott in 1976. He died July 24, 1997. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Petesch, in 1994.

Survivors include a son, James Wilson, Bradenton, Fla.; two stepsons, Dr. M. Scott Linscott, Salt Lake City, and Lester Linscott, Gainesville, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Cosa Garvert, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mount Hope Cemetery Chapel. Private inurnment will be at the cemetery. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests memorials to Heart of America Hospice, 3715 S.W. 29th, Topeka, 66614.

Emilie Moussa

Emilie Michelle Moussa, 68, Topeka, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at a Topeka hospital.

Mrs. Moussa worked in nursing service at The University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., and at St. Francis Health Care Center in Topeka, for 26 years before retiring in 1996.

She was born May 6, 1933, in Alexandria, Egypt. She lived in Kansas City, Mo., from 1965 to 1973, when she moved to Topeka.

Mrs. Moussa was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.

She married Frank H. Moussa. He survives, of the home.

Survivors also include two sons, Frank H. Moussa Jr., Shawnee, and Dr. Frank Wolkoff, Phoenix; a sister, Odette M. Tadros, Canada; two brothers, Magdi M. Marcos and Naim M. Marcos, both of Canada; and two grandchildren.

Funeral liturgy will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Lenexa. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Porter Funeral Home, Lenexa, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today.

Donald Rowland

Donald Frederick Rowland, 66, Topeka, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Rowland was a law professor emeritus at Washburn University. He had practiced law in Ellis after graduating from Washburn University in 1959. He also served as probate, juvenile and county judge of Ellis County, being elected in 1964, 1966 and 1969. He left Ellis County to teach law at Washburn University and initiate the Washburn Law Clinic. After retiring from teaching, he served as Topeka city attorney from November 1988 until spring 1989. During his tenure at Washburn University he authored numerous books, papers and articles on the practice of law, including "Lawyers, Courts & Deprived Children: A Kansas Guide," which was published by the Kansas Bar Association. He was a captain in the U.S. Air Force and served as judge advocate while on active duty from July 1959 to July 1963.
