Charlotte Taylor

INDIO HILLS, Calif. --- Charlotte "Pepper" Taylor, 80, Indio Hills, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at a Rancho Mirage, Calif., nursing home.

Mrs. Taylor had worked as a waitress and short-order cook for 60 years, and 26 of those years in the Borrego Springs, Calif., area.

She was born Oct. 1, 1921, in Topeka. She was raised in Topeka and moved to Borrego Springs in 1957 and then to Indio Hills in 1983.

She married Jesse Taylor in 1938. He died in 1983.

Survivors also include two daughters, Susan McCurdy, Indio Hills, and Kelly Taylor, Mount Airy, Md.; three granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.

Services and burial will be private.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the organization of the donor's choice.

Nora Bowman

BARNES --- Nora E. Bowman, 89, Barnes, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at a Marysville nursing home.

She was born Nov. 15, 1912, in Lafayette, Ga., the daughter of John and Lena Pilgrim Frady. Following the death of her husband, she moved to Barnes from Georgia to live with her daughter.

She was married to Ollie S. Bowman on Dec. 20, 1932. He died in 1984. She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Maudie Lee Weaver and Bonnie Louise Goodlet.

Survivors include a daughter, Pauline R. Eaton, Barnes; a son, Charles Bowman, Barnes; a sister, Ruby Broadrick, Lafayette; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Maplewood Cemetery, two miles northwest of Barnes. Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville, is in charge of arrangements.

Paul Colstrom

OSAGE CITY --- Paul Edward Colstrom, 69, Osage City, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at an Osage City nursing home.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Crable Funeral Chapel, Osage City. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Osage City. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Rapp School, sent in care of Crable Funeral Chapel, 107 N. 6th, Osage City, Kan., 66523.

Ben Holthaus

SENECA --- Ben C. Holthaus, 89, Seneca, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at a Seneca care home.

Mr. Holthaus started Holthaus Trucking Co. as a young man and hauled grain and livestock to the St. Joseph, Mo., stockyards, and later to Omaha, Neb., Emporia and other points in Kansas. He also farmed and raised livestock west of Seneca.

He was born Nov. 6, 1912, on a family homestead west of Seneca, the son of Frank H. and Josephine Rethman Holthaus. He attended St. Mary's School at St. Benedict. He had lived in the St. Benedict community, Seneca and rual Seneca before moving to a Seneca nursing home last year.

Mr. Holthaus was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the St. Joseph Society and the Knights of Columbus No. 1769, all of Seneca.

He married Sally Enneking on May 17, 1937, in Kelly. She died Nov. 5, 1944. He married Kathleen Fangman on Feb. 25, 1946, in Seneca. She died Aug. 21, 1990. He also was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Hilary Anne File, on Nov. 23, 1996.

Survivors include six daughters, Jeanette Callaghan, Mary Haug and Lana O'Connor, all of Seneca, Jacklyn Engelken and Jolene File, both of Topeka, and Debra Erwin, Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Cyril Holthaus, Seneca; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetery. There will be a prayer service at 2 p.m. today and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m. today, both at the Lauer Funeral Home, Seneca.

The family suggest memorial contributions for students attending the World Youth Day in Toronto, sent in care of the family.

Bernadine Kline

OSKALOOSA --- Funeral services for Bernadine A. Belllinger Kline, 79, Woodward, Okla., formerly of Oskaloosa and Boron, Calif., will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Barnett Funeral Home, Oskaloosa. She died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at her daughter's home in Woodward, Okla.

Mrs. Bellinger Kline was a waitress for many years at The Kitchen Restaurant and Old Bank Cafe, both in Oskaloosa. She also had worked at the Innes Tearoom in Wichita for many years.

She was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Seiling, Okla., the daughter of John Arthur and Millie Emeline Lytle Weeks. She attended schools in Belleville and Westcliffe, Colo., and attended Friends Bible College in Haviland. She moved to Oskaloosa in 1971 and also spent time in Boron, Calif., after 1990. She had most recently lived in Woodward, Okla., for more than a year.

Mrs. Bellinger-Kline was a member of the Stanwood Friends Church, rural McLouth, where she served as clerk and was a missionary of the church. She was a member of the Boron, Calif., Lions Club and the American Legion Auxiliary No. 36, Oskaloosa. She was a member and past president of the Kansas State Twins Association.

She married Glen Orville Kline in 1939. He died in World War II on April 10, 1945. She married George D. Bellinger on April 5, 1951, at Carson City, Nev. He died Aug. 18, 1990. She married Lawrence Kline on Aug. 24, 1991. He died June 19, 1995.
