Model U.N. winners awarded

Topeka Capital-Journal, The, Mar 12, 2002 by Capital-Journal

Results from the 38th annual Model United Nations, held March 4 and 5 at the Kansas Expocentre, have been announced. About 800 students from northeast and central Kansas participated.

Winners for best delegate in individual councils are as follows:

General Assembly One: Cori Ast, Washburn Rural High School, representing Colombia.

General Assembly Two: Ethan Dexter, Topeka High School, representing the United States.

Political Council One: Blake Whitaker, Topeka High, representing the United States.

Political Council Two: Blake Reinhart, Topeka West High School, representing China.

Economic and Social Council One: (tie) Pere Garlinghouse, Topeka High, representing Rwanda, and Rachel Voth, Topeka West, representing China.

Economic and Social Council Two: Matt Woerman, Topeka High, representing the United States.

World Council: Jeanette Wong, Washburn Rural Middle School, representing China.

Security Council: Wes West, Topeka High, representing the United States.

Winners for best overall middle school delegate were first place, Ben Robertson, Central Junior High, Lawrence, representing Germany; second place, Vicki Bentley, South Junior High, Lawrence, representing Armenia; third place, Eric Giroux, Topeka Collegiate, representing Switzerland.

Winners for best middle school delegations were first place, Lansing Middle School, Lansing, Syria; second place, Topeka Collegiate, Switzerland; third place, Patton Junior High, Leavenworth, North Korea.

Winners for best overall high school delegate were first place, Pere Garlinghouse, Topeka High, Rwanda; second place, Rachel Voth, Topeka West, China; third place, Ethan Dexter, Topeka High, United States.

Winners for best high school delegations were first place, United States, Topeka High; second place, China, Topeka West; third place, Rwanda, Topeka High School.
