Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Lebo United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery in Lebo. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University and sent in care of the funeral home.

James Shoemaker

EUDORA --- James Daniel Shoemaker, 23, Eudora, died Friday, March 29, 2002, from injuries he suffered in an automobile accident.

He was born April 14, 1978, in Lawrence, the son of Larry James and Starr L. Wilson Shoemaker. He attended Eudora schools and played the bass guitar.

Survivors include his parents, Larry James and Starr L. Shoemaker, Eudora; two sisters, Tresa Shoemaker, Lawrence, and Kim Shoemaker, Eudora; and grandparents, Maxine Shoemaker and Ray Wilson, both of Pittsburg.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will be in Eudora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eudora Nursing Center and sent in care of the mortuary.

Larrie Stortz

LONGFORD --- Larrie Stortz, 58, Longford, died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at a Topeka hospital.

Mr. Stortz served in the military police in the Army.

He was born Nov. 5, 1943, in Canton, Ohio, the son of George Stortz and Dorothy Fortney.

Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Abouswid, Longford; a son, Joseph Stortz, San Leandro, Calif.; his mother, Dorothy Stortz, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rose Meron Cemetery in Clay County. Mr. Stortz will lie in state from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center.

Contributions may be made to the Larrie Stortz Memorial Fund to be designated later and sent in care of the Farmers and Merchants State Bank, 316 Weda, Longford, 67458.

Earl Torrey

WAMEGO --- Earl Joseph Torrey, 93, Wamego, died Friday, March 29, 2002, at an Alma nursing home.

Mr. Torrey was a carpenter and home builder for Manhattan area contractors. He earlier had farmed on the Torrey family farm.

He was born March 20, 1909, in Flush, the son of Dudley P. and Mary Repp Torrey. He graduated from high school at St. George.

He married Edith Elizabeth Fechter on Feb. 16, 1942, in Colorado Springs, Colo. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Teresa Gull, Topeka, and Barbara Smith, Ann Arbor, Mich.; two sons, Donald Torrey, Stillwater, Okla., and Delbert Torrey, Drummond, Okla.; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Wamego. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Mr. Torrey will lie in state after 1 p.m. Monday at the Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego, where visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

Contributions may be made to the Earl Torrey Memorial Fund to be designated later and sent in care of the funeral home.
