Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Wilson and Son Funeral Chapel in Wellsville. Burial will be in Wellsville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heart of America Hospice and sent in care of the funeral home.
Merle Myers
LAWRENCE --- Merle M. Myers, Lawrence, died Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at a Lawrence hospital.
Services will be announced by Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
Marie Popwell
WAMEGO --- Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today at Horton City Cemetery in Horton for Marie I. Coffman Popwell, 91, Wamego. She died Monday, June 10, 2002, at a Wamego nursing home.
She was born Feb. 13, 1911, in Horton, the daughter of Otis and Della Johnson Coffman. She attended school in Horton and later lived in St. Joseph, Mo. She worked for an aircraft engine plant in Illinois during World War II. She had lived in Holy Lock, Scotland, Waukegan, Ill., and West Memphis, Ark., before she moved to Wamego.
Mrs. Popwell was a member of the auxiliaries to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
He married Charles Popwell on Oct. 12, 1965. He died on June 30, 2000.
Memorial contributions may be made to Valley Vista Good Samaritan Center in Wamego and sent in care of Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys.
William Tittel
MANHATTAN --- William F. Tittel, 84, Manhattan, died Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at a Topeka hospital.
He was born Sept. 28, 1917, in Bazine, and had been a longtime Manhattan resident.
Services will be announced by Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home in Manhattan.
Geraldine Townsend
EUDORA --- Geraldine L. Townsend, Eudora, died Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at a Eudora nursing home.
Services will be announced by Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
Clara Wanklyn
FRANKFORT --- Clara Mae Wanklyn, 90, Winifred, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at a Marysville hospital.
Mrs. Wanklyn taught school at Grime School in Marshall County in the 1930s, and she and her husband had owned and operated Wanklyn Oil Co. in Winifred. She also served for 22 years as the Winifred Postmaster before she retired in 1982.
She was born Jan. 27, 1912, in the Bigelow community in Marshall County, the daughter of Charles A. and Ethel Weeks Neal. She graduated from Frankfort High School in 1931.
Mrs. Wanklyn was a member of Winifred Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She also was a member of the Just-A-Mere Club, Home Circle Club, Winifred Extension Homemakers Unit, Winifred Baptist Mission Circle, Progressive Homemakers Club, Thursday Afternoon Club and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
She married Albert L. Wanklyn on Dec. 21, 1937, in Junction City. He died on June 8, 1962.
Survivors include two sons, Keith Wanklyn, Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Dennis Wanklyn, Frankfort; a daughter, Janice Wissman, Manhattan; two brothers, Arthur Neal and Lawrence Neal, both of Frankfort; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Winifred Baptist Church. Burial will be in Frankfort Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Padden Funeral Chapel in Frankfort.
