Hobart Wikle

SABETHA --- Hobart Cedric Wikle, 77, Sabetha, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at a Topeka hospital.

Mr. Wikle farmed near Sabetha his entire life. He served in the Army in the Occupied Japan from 1945 to 1946.

He was born Sept. 15, 1924, on a farm near Sabetha, the son of Addison Willer and Sallie Louise Riffe Wikle. He graduated from Sabetha High School in 1942.

Mr. Wikle was a member of Sabetha First United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school for many years. He also was past commander of Post No. 322 of the American Legion in Fairview and a member of the Senior Citizens Card Group in Fairview.

He married Mildred Ann Mays on Jan. 10, 1951, in Lewisburg, W. Va. She survives.

Other survivors include five daughters, Sallie Ann Hibbs, Chapman, Sharon Jane Wikle, Belton, Mo., Peggy Sue Miller, Topeka, Patricia Lynne Cheffey, Palmyra, Mo., and Lori Kaye Aberle, St. Joseph, Mo.; two brothers, Guy Wikle and Rayburn Wikle, both of Sabetha; a sister, Joelline Stoller, Sabetha; five grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. Burial with military honors will be in Sabetha Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, the First United Methodist Church in Sabetha or to the charity of the donor's choice and sent in care of the mortuary.

The Rev. Harold Wolf

HIAWATHA --- The Rev. Harold R. Wolf, 90, Hiawatha, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at a Hiawatha nursing home.

The Rev. Wolf was an ordained Methodist minister, and he had served the Reserve Christian Church and later the Everest Christian Church for 27 years before he retired. He and his wife also owned and operated Wolf's Jewelry and Gifts in Hiawatha, and he wrote religious books. He served in the Army infantry during World War II. He was a prisoner of war in Europe for several months and started his ministry in the prison camp. He was discharged at the rank of staff sergeant in 1945.

He was born Nov. 16, 1911, in Thayer, the son of Floyd and Meda Bales Wolf. He was raised in Powhattan and graduated from high school in Powhattan. He delivered water in Hiawatha before he joined the Army. He graduated from Highland Junior College and took correspondence ministry classes from Texas A&M University.

The Rev. Wolf was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 35 AF&AM in Hiawatha, the Hiawatha Kiwanis Club and Homer White Post No. 66 of the American Legion in Hiawatha.

He married Alberta Cyphers. She survives.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Hiawatha. Masonic committal services will be conducted by Lodge No. 35 AF&AM. Burial with military graveside services conducted by Post No. 66 of the American Legion will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Rev. Wolf will lie in state at Casselman-Meek Funeral Home in Hiawatha after noon today, where visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday.
