Dorothy Bonine

GALESBURG --- Dorothy Bonine, 84, Galesburg, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at a Parsons hospital.

Mrs. Bonine and her husband farmed west of Galesburg for 53 years. She also worked for the Census Bureau in Pittsburg for 20 years, and she taught school for one year many years ago.

She was born Aug. 14, 1917, near Erie, the daughter of Ernest O. Janssen and Sarah Foster Janssen. She graduated from Erie High School and from Parsons Junior College. She had lived in Erie for three years before she moved to Parsons a few years ago.

Mrs. Bonine was a member of the Galesburg Christian Church and a former member of a Home Demonstration Unit.

She married Herman Bonine on April 29, 1937, in Erie. He died March 2, 2000.

Survivors include two sons, Arthur E. Bonine, Parsons, and Philip L. Bonine, Benton; two daughters, Esther Bonine, Surf City, N.C., and Patricia Bonine, Topeka; two brothers, Ralph Janssen, Erie, and Leo Janssen, Parsons; two sisters, Alice Anderson, Chanute, and Edith Hollis, Topeka; three grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; and stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Galesburg Christian Church. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery at Erie. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons.

Memorial contributions may be made to Galesburg Christian Church or the Janssen Family Memorial at the Parsons Arboretum and sent in care of the funeral home.
