Mr. Gamble was a member of the Springfield Lions Club and Springfield United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of the Santa Fe Trail Association.

He married Mary A. Brewer on June 8, 1934, in Guymon, Okla. She survives.

Other survivors include three sons, Bill Gamble, Urbana, Ill., Dennis Gamble, Topeka, and Mickey Gamble, Meade; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

George Mueller

WACONIA, Minn. --- Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg, Minn., for George F. Mueller, 89, Waconia. He died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at a Waconia hospital.

Mr. Mueller was an engineer with Van Doran Hazard and Stallings Consulting Engineers in Topeka from 1954 until he retired in 1982. He earlier had worked for the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey from 1945 to 1954 and he served in the Army as an engineer during World War II. He was decorated with the Asiatic-Pacific theater service medal, the American Defense service medal and four overseas service bars.

He was born June 24, 1913, in Young America Township in Carver County, Minn., to Herman and Sophia Harms Mueller. He graduated from Central High School in Norwood and earned a bachelor's degree in forestry at the University of Minnesota. He lived most of his life in Kansas before he moved to Minot, N.D., and then back to Minnesota in 1999.

Mr. Mueller was a member of Topeka North Post No. 400 of the American Legion, past commander of Philip Billard Post No. 1650 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and of District No. 1 of the VFW. He was a member of Post No. 150 of the American Legion and Post No. 5462 of the VFW, both in Waconia, and the Moose Lodge and the Elks Lodge.

He volunteered at the veterans hospital and he was president of the Residents Association of Westview Acres in Waconia.

He married Barbara Rule on Dec. 26, 1956, in Topeka. She survives.

Other survivors include a sister, Sophia "Bobby" Elling, Norwood.

Burial will be in Emmanuel Lutheran Church cemetery. Visitation will be this evening at Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Norwood.

Victor Woods

YATES CENTER --- Victor L. Woods, 87, Yates Center, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at an Iola hospital.

Mr. Woods worked for AT&T in California until he retired. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He was born Feb. 2, 1915, in Yates Center, the son of Donald and Rose Craig Wood. He was raised in Yates Center and moved back to Yates Center from California in 1984.

No immediate family members survives.

Mr. Woods was cremated. No services are planned. Inurnment will be in Yates Center Cemetery.

Wayne Brooks

COUNCIL GROVE --- Wayne Brooks, 76, Council Grove, died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at a Topeka hospital.

Mr. Brooks worked for Beech Aircraft at Delvan Airbase in the late 1940s and was the first man hired to work on Council Grove Reservoir. He later served as Council Grove chief of police and Morris County sheriff and deputy sheriff. He was director of community service and director of the Emergency Preparedness for Morris County at the time of his death. He served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946 and then served for 18 years in the Kansas Army National Guard. He was decorated with the World War II Victory medal, American Campaign medal and the Philippine Liberation Campaign ribbon.
