He was born June 27, 1926, in Council Grove, the son of Ira and Alma Campbell Brooks. He graduated from Council Grove High School in 1944 and was a lifelong Council Grove resident.

Mr. Brooks was a member and past commander of Frederick Phillips Post of the American Legion.

He married Juanita Vasques on Jan. 28, 1951, in Council Grove. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Susan Dunegan, Santa Cruz, Calif., and Sharmon Richardson, Council Grove; two sons, Mike Brooks and Mark Brooks, both of Council Grove; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Cremation is planned. A Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Council Grove. Inurnment with graveside military rites will be at Calvary Cemetery in Council Grove. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Memorial Chapel of the Flint Hills.

Contributions may be made to the Wayne Brooks Memorial Fund to be designated later and sent in care of the funeral chapel.

Vincent Guerrero

EMPORIA --- Vincent Elais Guerrero, 71, Emporia, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at his home.

Mr. Guerrero was a custodian for local businesses in Emporia for 25 years and he also worked in construction for 15 years. He retired nine years ago.

He was born July 19, 1930, in Verden, Okla., the son of Jose and Patricia Elias Guerrero.

He married Ernestina Tabares on April 19, 1960, in Council Grove. She survives.

Other survivors include four sons, Johnnie Green Jr., Saginaw, Texas, Ricky Guerrero, Wichita, Daniel Guerrero, Wathena, and Phillip Guerrero, Pittsburg; four daughters, Sue Ann Barnes, Weir, Patricia Guerrero Baray, Pittsburg, and Delores Schneider and Alicia Dingman, both of Emporia; three brothers, Cruz Guerrero, Oklahoma City, Joe Guerrero, Lawton, Okla., and Henry Guerrero, Denver; and a sister, Margaret Guerrero, Denver.

Mr. Guerrero was cremated. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hand In Hand Hospice and sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia.

Daniel Jaimes

LAWRENCE --- Daniel R. "Dan" Jaimes, 66, Lawrence, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at his home.

Mr. Jaimes taught science and biology at Central Junior High School in Lawrence where he also coached football and basketball. He served two years as vice principal and then 24 years as principal at Central Junior High in Lawrence before he retired in 1994. He also taught and coached at Junction City Junior High School from 1958 to 1960. He joined the Kansas National Guard in 1954 and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in August 1960. He transferred to the Army reserves in June 1962 and retired at the rank of colonel in September 1990.

He was born Aug. 15, 1935, in Ottawa, the son of Jose and Pilar Nava Jaimes. He moved to Lawrence from Ottawa with his family in 1944. He earned a degree in education from The University of Kansas in 1958 and a master's degree in school administration and guidance at KU in 1967.
