Street closings announced
- The bridge on N.W. 46th Street over Half Day Creek will be undergoing repair and improvement until Nov. 7. Traffic will be controlled by a temporary traffic signal on the bridge while deck patching and the installation of a concrete overlay is being done.
- S.W. 25th Street and the west leg of S.W. Mission Avenue will be closed Thursday through Tuesday while work is being done to replace a water line. A detour will direct traffic around the intersection.
Quilters group meeting canceled
The Country Quilters program planned for Thursday has been canceled because of illness of the speaker, Pat Knoechel, of California. It will be rescheduled. For more information, call 286- 2421 or 233-1407.
Sales to benefit health organization
Valeo Behavioral Health Care will have a benefit rummage sale on Friday and a bulb sale through Sept. 20 to benefit various programs of the health care organization. The rummage sale will benefit the psychosocial program, CARE, and it will begin at 8 a.m. at the Valeo Bryce Miller Building, 2401 S.W. 6th. A bake sale and craft sale at the same location will benefit a day trip and holiday gifts for clients of the CARE program.
A Netherland Bulb Co. bulb sale will continue through Sept. 20. Orders may be placed by calling 357-0589, Ext. 138.
Valeo Behavioral Health Care is a comprehensive behavioral health center that provides mental wellness and recovery services. For more information, call Karla Hedquist at 233-1730, Ext. 287.
Arthritis run/walk set for Saturday
The Arthritis Foundation, Kansas Chapter, will have a "Joint Walk/ Run" for Arthritis on Saturday at Crestview Shelter House on the Shunga Trail, 4802 S.W. Shunga Drive. A 5K run has been added to this year's event. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. The 5K run will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the one mile and four mile walks beginning at 9 a.m.
Arthritis Foundation workers will be available to give free joint checks and literature regarding all forms of arthritis.
Pharmacia, Eli Lilly and Centocor will have information booths with arthritis drug literature and answers to questions regarding pharmaceuticals.
The fee for the run is $18 in advance, or $20 on Saturday. Members of the Sunflower Striders Running Club can register in advance for $15, or for $18 on the day of the run.

Brochures for the event can be picked up at Asay's Sportsman's Store, all Walgreen's pharmacies, Orthopedic Clinic and Sports Medicine, Cotton-O'Neil Clinic, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, AmerUs Annuity Group Building and Chick-fil-A at West Ridge Mall.
The Arthritis Foundation is the primary nonprofit source of funding for arthritis research. The Arthritis Joint Walk/Run will assist in funding research for more than 100 forms of arthritis and auto-immune diseases.
Shelter and gazebo reservations available
Shawnee County Parks and Recreation will accept reservations for 2003 for its shelter houses and gazebo beginning at 8 a.m. Monday.
The telephone number to call to make a reservation is 266-1156. Walk-in reservations will begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday at the Parks and Recreation Administration Office, 3137 S.E. 29th.
