WIBW-AM of Topeka has been named a national finalist in the Silver Microphone Awards for 2002. The competition selects the best local and regional radio commercials, audio programs and Web sites created by advertising agencies, production companies and radio stations in the United States.

A commercial created for Hillmer's Luggage Leather & Gifts was named a national finalist in the category of retail stores.

The creative advertising message for "Hillmer's Holiday" was written by Jim Edmonston. Dan Lindquist was the director, and production was by Dave Lee. Voice talent was provided by Paul Meier. The commercial aired on 580 Radio WIBW last November and December.

Last year, WIBW Radio was the only radio station named a Silver Microphone national winner and had a national finalist entry as well.

The Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library board of trustees has elected Glenda DuBoise, SBC Southwestern Bell Telephone, as its chairwoman for 2002-03.

DuBoise has served as a library trustee since 1998. She also serves on the boards of the Stormont-Vail Foundation, the YWCA of Topeka and The National Coordinating Board of the YWCA of the USA. She is president of the Topeka Chapter of The Links Inc. and the Career Chapter of the American Business Women's Association.

Other officers are Bruce Henriksen, vice chairman; Peg Chrisman, secretary; and Frank Ybarra, treasurer. Brian Moline is the immediate past chairman of the board of trustees.

Other board members are Doris Kinnett, Tim Peterson, Kay Fischer, Steve Schwarm and Bill Shaw.

Kaw Chapter, International Association of Administrative Professionals, has selected new officers. They are:

President, Judy Wilson, administrative assistant for Sunflower Foundation Health Care for Kansans; vice president, Mary Stockton; administrative assistant II for Hallmark Cards Inc.; secretary, Deann Blankenship, office technology instructor at Kaw Area Technical School; treasurer, JoAnne Newberry, administrative clerk for Westar Energy; and directors Judy Diffley, of Washburn University, and Tammy Mapes, executive assistant at Payless ShoeSource.

Kaw Chapter provides educational resources and opportunities its members. The mission of IAAP is to be recognized as a leader of office professionals and to enhance their value, image, competence, and influence.

SME-Topeka is a professional association for sales and marketing managers, executives and business owners. It has more than 120 members representing small and larger employers in northeast Kansas in both the corporate and non-profit sectors. It is an affiliate of SME International.

Discovery Furniture by Winter has been selected as the area's exclusive furniture retailer for Flexsteel's new Christopher Lowell Home Collection.

Discovery Furniture has incorporated a 1,200 square foot custom display area designed by Lowell to showcase the collection. The area incudes samples of styles, a fabric kiosk categorized by lifestyle category, and an in-store video display featuring Lowell explaining his design philosophy.

The collection includes more than 50 styles, including sofas, chaises, love seats, ottomans and backless sofas and settees. The designs follow four lifestyles categories Lowell outlines in his best- selling book, "Christopher Lowell's Seven Layers of Design."

"The Christopher Lowell Show," airs at 1 and 2 p.m. locally on the Discovery Channel.

Reuter Organ Co., of Lawrence, has received honors in business achievement from the Kansas Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Kansas Department of Commerce and Housing.

Reuter will be the first recipient of the KCCI Excellence in Manufacturing award, which recognizes the company's quality, craftsmanship and dedication to excellence. The award will be presented Oct. 25 in Lawrence.

For more than 80 years, Reuter has crafted pipe organs from its facility in Lawrence for customers throughout the world. As part of the awards ceremony to be held at Reuter, KCCI attendees will gather for an executive breakfast and a VIP tour of the manufacturing complex. The program will conclude with a working luncheon, where company officials will discuss some Reuter's successful practices.
