William Brownlee

KANSAS CITY, Mo. --- William O. "Bill" Brownlee, 73, Kansas City, Mo., died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, after a heart attack.

Mr. Brownlee was a former Stafford County farmer, Miami County banker and Kansas City-area real estate agent.

He was born April 27, 1929, in Lawrence, Kan., the son of William O. and Laverne Brownlee. He was raised in Lawrence and spent the summers in Zenith, Kan., as a child. He graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in agriculture economics in 1950. He began a career in farming in Zenith. He moved to Paola in 1962.

Mr. Brownlee was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

He married Phyllis Greenough in 1950. They divorced. He later married Barbara Brownlee. She survives.

Survivors also include two daughters, Linda Patterson, Topeka, and Patty Zender, Kansas City, Mo.; two sons, Jim Brownlee, Oak Hill, Va., and Doug Brownlee, Olathe; a brother, Jerry Brownlee, Hico, Texas; and 13 grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association or the Sedalia Community Church in Manhattan, Kan.

Hilary Dunnaway

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. --- Hilary Thomson Adcock Dunnaway, 101, Lee's Summit, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002.

Mrs. Dunnaway had taught school in Kansas and Missouri several years ago.

She was born Oct. 18, 1901, in Tuscumbia, Mo., and graduated from Eldon High School. She attended Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg.

Mrs. Dunnaway researched and wrote four family histories for the Thomson, Adcock, Kennedy and Dunnaway families, which are housed in seven historical and genealogical libraries. She also wrote and published a book of memories in 1995. She was a member of the Lee's Summit Christian Church.

She married Herbert Ray Dunnaway on June 1, 1924.

Survivors include a daughter, Dixie Ann Dunnaway, Parkville, Mo.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Newcomer's Stine and McClure Chapel in Kansas City, Mo. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Tuscumbia Cemetery in Tuscumbia. Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to John Knox Village or to Lee's Summit Christian Church and sent in care of the funeral chapel.

Helen Strome

SEAL BEACH, Calif. --- Helen Short Strome, 83, Seal Beach, died Nov. 7, 2002.

Mrs. Strome taught school in Kansas in the early 1940s and later for 32 years at Delevan, Wilsey, Burdick and Herington before she retired in 1981. She worked for Douglas Airplane Factory in El Segundo, Calif., during World War II.

She was born Aug. 16, 1919, in Lyon County, Kan., and graduated from Toledo Township High School in 1937. She earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Emporia State Teachers College.

Mrs. Strome was a member of Beta Theta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and the First United Methodist Church at Herington.

She married Lewis Strome in February 1942 in Abilene, Kan. He survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Linda Strome, Long Beach, Calif.; a son, Mark Strome, Topeka; three brothers, Bill Short, Cottonwood Falls, Kan., Morris Short, Derby, Kan., and Richard Short, Paxico, Kan.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 7, at Leisure World Community Church in Seal Beach.

Gilbert Williams

WICHITA --- Gilbert David Williams, 93, Wichita, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at an Andover nursing home.

Mr. Williams worked for Boeing Military Aircraft Co. for 30 years before he retired.

He was born Oct. 20, 1909, in Osage City, the son of Richard Lloyd and Stella Mae Martin Williams. He graduated from Osage City High School and moved to Wichita in 1939.

Mr. Williams was a member of Trinity Methodist Church in Wichita and a former member of the United Methodist Church in Osage City.

He married Laura Harris. She died March 5, 1991.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Osage City Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and sent in care of Crable Funeral Chapel in Osage City.

Charles Bollinger

Charles H. "Doak" Bollinger, 89, formerly of East Peoria, Ill., died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at his son's home in Topeka.

Mr. Bollinger was a machinist for Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 30 years before he retired in 1975.

He was born Dec. 24, 1912, in Carterville, Ill., the son of Charles and Anna Smothers Bollinger. He had lived in Topeka since March 2001.

Mr. Bollinger was a member of North Side Church of the Nazarene in Peoria, Ill.

He married Louise Lowry on Jan. 22, 1935, in Carterville. She died on Oct. 28, 1977. Mr. Bollinger also was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Ray Bollinger and John Stephen Bollinger, two grandchildren, one great-grandson and a great-great-grandchild.

Survivors include a son, Charles Eugene Bollinger, Topeka; three sisters, Reba Gladde, Perryville, Mo., Maxine Sprague, Carbondale, Ill., and Dorothy Spence, Carterville; two brothers, Paul Bollinger, Carterville, and Jim Bollinger, Energy, Ill.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
