Alvina Zeckser
JUNCTION CITY --- Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Junction City for Alvina Zernickow Zeckser, 91, Junction City. She died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at a Junction City care center.
Mrs. Zeckser had worked for the Junction City Chamber of Commerce many years ago and later worked at Fort Riley. She also was the church pianist at Mount Zion Baptist Church and Highland Baptist Church for more than 50 years.
She was born June 28, 1911, in the High Prairie community of Geary County, to Wilhelm K. and Lena M. Henning Zernickow. She graduated from Junction City High School in 1929.
Mrs. Zeckser was a member of Mount Zion Dorcas Society, where she was past president and treasurer. She was a member of the Highland Women's Missionary, past president of the Woodbine Chapter of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union, a life member of the Worlds WCTU and a member of the Historical Societies of Geary County and Herington.
She married Alvin F. Zeckser on April 28, 1937, in Junction City. He died June 5, 1988.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha Oberkfell, Alton, Ill.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Mount Zion Baptist Cemetery near Junction City.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Open Door, 136 S. 3rd, or Highland Baptist Church, 1407 St. Mary's Road, both in Junction City, 66441, or to the organization of the donor's choice.
