Doris Jean Wright and Gregory Allen Carroll exchanged marriage vows at 3 p.m. Aug. 10, 2002, at Peace Lutheran Church in Manhattan.

The Rev. Marie Davis of Covington, Ga., officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Lawrence G. and Betty E. Wright of Topeka. The bridegroom is the son of George Carroll and Mary Carroll, both of Denver.

Deborah Peek Crockett, Atlanta, was matron of honor. The bridesmaid was Trinity Wright, Shawnee.

Tim Hoyman, Aurora, Colo., was best man. Tim Carroll, Lincoln, Neb., was the groomsman.

Tania Carroll, Lincoln, Neb., was the flower girl.

The Adam Thiesen Brass Quintet of Manhattan played the prelude and the wedding recessional. Musicians who also played during the marriage service were Darryl White, Lincoln, on trumpet and Maurice Wright, Kankakee, Ill., on organ, piano and flute.

LaBarbara Wigfall served as griot for their African-American "jumping the broom" ceremony prior to the close of the church marriage service.

A reception followed at the newlyweds' Tuttle Creek Lake home at Manhattan.

The bride is a graduate of Topeka High School and Kansas State University with a bachelor's degree in psychology and master's degree in education. She earned a doctorate degree in counseling psychology at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She is an associate professor in the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology at Kansas State University.

The groom is a graduate of East High School in Denver, the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley with bachelor's and master's degrees in music education. He is the director of education for the International Association of Jazz Education.

The newlyweds honeymooned at Isla de Mujueres, Mexico.They reside in Manhattan.

Sean Kelsey and Brenda J. Murphy

Michael and Colleen Murphy of Topeka announce the engagement of their daughter, Brenda, to Sean Kelsey, son of Gaylord and Connie Kelsey of Silver Lake.

The bride-to-be is a graduate of Hayden High School, Kaw Area Technical School and Washburn University with an associate degree in technical drafting. She is employed at Architect One, P.A., in Topeka as an administrative assistant and a computer assisted design technician.

The future groom is a graduate of Silver Lake High School, Kaw Area Technical School and Washburn University with an associate degree in technical drafting. He is a computer assisted design technician at Bartlett & West Engineers Inc. in Topeka.

They are planning a May 8, 2004, wedding at Lake Shawnee.

Smith-Konieczny

Velma "V.J." Smith and David W. Konieczny announce their engagement.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Shirley A. Smith of Topeka and the late Dewey E. Smith.

The future groom is the son of Sheryl Thornbloom of Hudson, Fla.

They plan to wed on June 21, 2003.
