Author to speak about wife's death

The Topeka Community Foundation will host William H. Colby, author of "Long Goodbye: The Deaths of Nancy Cruzan," at a public forum from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, 1515 S.W. 10th.

Colby will discuss the importance of making your wishes known. He is a lawyer whose wife, Nancy, was critically injured in an automobile accident and was in a coma for several years. He and his family fought for her right to die.

Admission is free. For reservations, call 272-4804.

Plant sale opens Wednesday

The Topeka LULAC Senior Center plant sale will be Wednesday through Friday at the senior center, 1502 N.E. Seward Ave. The sale hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Proceeds will go to services for seniors and the disabled.

The following groups and organizations will meet in the coming week:

- Topeka Civic Nucomers --- Cards and conversation luncheon, 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Abouds at Western Hills, 8533 S.W. 21st. For more information, call 273-7205.

- Unity Toastmasters --- Regular meeting, 7 p.m. Wednesday, Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, 1515 S.W. 10th. For more information, call Maggie Kelley at 273-8253.

- Heartland Toastmasters --- Weekly meeting for those interested in improving their speaking skills, noon Thursday, Old Country Buffet at West Ridge Mall. For more information, call Maggie Kelley at 273- 8253.

- Daughters of Isabella Little Flower Circle No. 503 --- Mary's Holy Hour, 10 a.m. Saturday, Assumptuion Parish Hall, 204 S.W. 8th.
