Bruce promoted --- Mark A. Bruce has been promoted to captain by the Kansas Highway Patrol. Bruce will continue to command the patrol's emergency operations section.
Bruce joined the KHP in 1989 and was assigned duties as a field trooper in Riley County. He transferred to Topeka in 1996 and was assigned to the research and planning section of the patrol's general headquarters. He was promoted to lieutenant in March and reassigned to emergency operations.
Bruce has a bachelor's degree in psychology from The University of Kansas and master's degree in criminal justice from Washburn University. He served in the Kansas Air National Guard from 1985 to 1984 attaining the rank of technical sergeant and specializing in law enforcement.
Callahan Creek promotes, hires --- Chris Cook has been promoted to account executive by Callahan Creek Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations in Lawrence.
Cook will continue to work primarily on Callahan Creek's account with the domestic division of Hill's Pet Nutrition. He came to Callahan Creek from North Palm Beach, Fla., where he worked for Bankrate.com as a relationship manager.
Hilary Bailey is a new account coordinator. She works in accounts for Kansas Travel & Tourism, Kansas Department of Commerce, Children's Mercy Hospital and The Sunflower Foundation.
She recently graduated from The University of Kansas with a bachelor's degree in journalism with an emphasis in strategic communications and marketing. Previously, she worked in marketing and merchandising for The Gap Corp. in Leawood.
Mead new chief examiner --- Kyle J. Mead has joined Lawyers Title of Topeka Inc. as chief examining attorney. Mead determines what requirements need to be met in order to ensure clean residential and commercial real estate transactions and assists the parties in satisfying those requirements.
Mead brings five years of experience in private practice to his position with Lawyers Title. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Ind., and the Washburn University School of Law. He is a member of the Kansas and Topeka bar associations.
Mead and his wife, Denise, are expecting their third child.
Massage therapist hired --- Daniel Bush, a nationally certified massage therapist, has joined Hair Professionals, 5626 S.W. 29th in Barrington Village. Bush offers Swedish, deep tissue, rehabilitative, hot stone, pregnancy, Reiki and essential oils massages.
Before joining Hair Professionals, he was a massage therapist at Elle 'Et Lui Salon and Day Spa in Vienna, Va. Bush is also a retired naval officer.
Bush graduated from the School for Applied Kinesthetic Studies in Herndon, Va. He is certified in massage therapy and bodywork and is licensed by the Board of Nursing in Virginia.

Executive director named --- Jan M. McKenzie has been named executive director of the Great Overland Station, 701 N. Kansas Ave. McKenzie has more than seven years experience in the museum field, most recently at the Durham Western Heritage Museum in Omaha, Neb.
She has a bachelor's degree from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, and a master's degree in public administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Her research project for her master's degree has been used by tourism officials in Omaha and elsewhere.
Social services offered --- Jody Arnett Koerner has reopened her private practice at Shunga Creek Mental Health Services, 5040 S.W. 28th, Suite B. Koerner is a licensed clinical social worker providing mental health therapy, which includes individual mental health for outpatient, family, relationship therapy and EAP counseling. She has expanded her specialty to include grief issues counseling to individuals and groups.
Koerner has a bachelor's degree from Fort Hays University and a master's degree in social work from Denver University.
She provided mental health counseling in the Topeka area from 1991 to 2001, then was lead social worker at Partheon Pavilion, a psychiatric hospital in Nashville, Tenn. She is a member of the American Academy of Bereavement, the National Association of Social Workers, and the Kansas chapter of the NASW.
Koerner and her husband, Richard, reside in Topeka.

Dance instructor offers classes --- Maryann Henderson, former instructor at the Electric Cowboy Dance Club, is teaching at Garfield Community Center, 1600 N.E.
