Nola and Bill

Logan

William "Bill" C. and Nola Logan, Clay Center, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary as guests of honor at a family dinner today in Clay Center.

Nola Nyberg and Bill C. Logan were married Oct. 16, 1943, in LaJolla, Calif.

Hosts will be their children, Bill H. Logan, Seattle; Brian C. and Donna Logan, Auburn; Dr. Brad R. Logan and Dr. Lauren Ritterbush, Manhattan; Blair D. Logan, Topeka; Brent J. Logan, Wakefield; and Shari A. and Steven Lambrecht, Tecumseh. The couple have 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Logan retired from the furniture business in 1993.

Helen and Gene Matney

Gene A. and Helen W. Matney, Topeka, will celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary with several trips at later dates.

Gene A. Matney and Helen W. Trahoon were married Oct. 15, 1948, in Topeka.

Mr. Matney served in the U.S. Navy for more than three years during World War II in the South Pacific.

Mr. Matney retired in 1990 after 43 years of service in the sales of auto parts at various car dealerships.

Mrs. Matney retired in 1983 from the area accounting staff office of Southwestern Bell in Topeka after 40 years of service.

Charles and June Nimz

June I. and Charles W. Nimz Jr., Topeka, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a party from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Lake Shawnee Shelter House No. 3.

June Rader and Charles Nimz Jr. were married Oct. 10, 1953, at the Methodist Church in Denton.

Hosts will be their children and spouses, Chuck and Linda Nimz, Topeka; Kevin and Debi Nimz, Oklahoma City; Mike and Mary Taylor, Tecumseh; and Kent and Julie Schwerdt, Topeka; and their 10 grandchildren.

Mr. Nimz retired in 1994 as a parts man for Berry Tractor after 17 years of service.

Mrs. Nimz retired May 13, 2003, from the medical records department at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center after 24 years of service.

The Rev. Wendell and Mina Johnson

The Rev. Wendell R. and Mina Johnson, Topeka, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception and light buffet supper from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at Susanna Wesley United Methodist Church, 7433 S.W. 29th.

The Rev. Wendell R. Johnson and Mina Johnson --- her maiden name also was Johnson --- were married Oct. 22, 1953, at Washington Avenue Methodist Church in Kansas City, Kan., with Rev. Johnson's father, the Rev. Harvey C. Johnson, officiating.

Hosts will be their five children and spouses and their nine grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson and Cassandra, Topeka; JoBeth and Dan Minks, Emily, Danny and Ashley, all of Gilbert, Ariz.; Jill and Perry Cobb, Harrison, Bradford, Jackson and Sydney, all of Olathe; Maj. Jon Robert Johnson, Alexandria, Va.; and Jeff and Lindy Johnson and Madison, both of Salina.

The Rev. Johnson retired in 1994 after 48 years of service as a United Methodist minister. Rev. Johnson was pastor at Euclid Methodist Church in Topeka. He later served churches in Kansas City, Kan., Eureka, Yates Center, Parsons and the Kansas Avenue United Methodist Church in Topeka.

Mrs. Johnson was the social services and activity director for Autumn Manor Nursing Homes in Yates Center and was director of the Adult Day Care Center in Parsons. She has been employed by Hallmark Marketing for the past 17 years.

The couple have been with the Kansas Guardianship Program for the past 19 years.

An open invitation is extended to friends and former parishoners. The couple request no gifts.

Guy and Fran Bishop

Guy and Fran "Frankie" Bishop, Topeka, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 19 at Crestview United Methodist Church, 2245 S.W. Eveningside Drive.

Hosts will be their nieces.

Frances A. Stewart and Guy A. Bishop met as students at Wamego High School in 1948. They were married Nov. 1, 1953, at First United Methodist Church in Wamego.

Mr. Bishop retired Sept. 28, 2002, as a meat cutter after 50 years of service. After completing a 14-month tour of duty in France with the U.S. Army in 1959, Mr. Bishop worked as a meat cutter and department manager at C&W Market in Topeka, Holton Country Mart, and the Auburn Apple Market.

Mrs. Bishop retired in March 1998 after 11 years of service with the Kansas Department of Agriculture as an office assistant. She previously was a medical and administrative assistant for Dr. W.H. Zimmerman for 22 years.

Layton and JoAnn Long

Layton and JoAnn Long, Osage City, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary as guests of honor at a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 19 in the RCIL building in Osage City.

Mr. and Mrs. Long were married Oct. 18, 1953.

Hosts will be their children and spouses, David and Glenda Long, Louisburg; and Debby and Gerald Fagan, Danny and Jennie Long and Deanna and Kenny Attkisson, all of Osage City. They have 12 grandchildren.

Mr. Long was in partnership with Leland Olson in the Olson and Long Garage in Osage City for 20 years. In 1978, he purchased Osage Auto Supply and Machine Shop. He retired in 1990. He now works for Porter Ranch and does some ranching on his own.
