Beverly Jean Badger

CARBONDALE --- Beverly Jean Badger, 69, died at her farm home near Carbondale, Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, of complications from Parkinson's disease.

She was born May 10, 1934, in Norton, the daughter of Olen Dee and Juanita Foland Mumma. She spent her childhood in Almena, and moved with her family to Topeka when she was 16 years old. She graduated from Highland Park High School in 1952.

Beverly married James Badger, of Carbondale on Oct. 18, 1952, and they began farming there. She was a farm wife and homemaker who loved children, and was mother to five of her own as well as to many foster and exchange students.

Survivors include her husband, Jim, at the home; two sons, Christopher, Grapevine, Texas, and Jeffrey, Carbondale, ; three daughters, Cynthia, Tacoma, Wash., Jennifer, Olathe, and Barbara, Carbondale; 14 grandchildren; and two great granddaughters.

Also surviving are her mother, Juanita Mumma, Topeka, sisters, Carla Epling, Sequim, Wash., Deanna Herrin, San Antonio, Texas, Kay Brooks, Silver Lake, and Sue Liljenberg, Sumner, Wash.; and brothers, Don Mumma, Yuma, Ariz., and Joel Mumma, Wichita.

Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Overbrook. Inurnment will be in Carbondale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers and to honor her love of all children, memorial contributions may be made to the Beverly Badger Memorial Fund for Youth in care of First Christian Church, 310 E. 8th St., Overbrook, Kan., 6524, or Southern Care Hospice, 1440 Wakarusa Drive, Lawrence, Kan., 66049.

Carey Funeral Home in Burlingame is in charge of arrangements.

Lance Douglas Braden

WAMEGO --- Lance Douglas Braden, 41, Wamego, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at Mercy Health Center in Manhattan after a long illness.

He was born Nov. 17, 1962, in Wamego, the son of Dr. Bill Lee and Elizabeth Huann Armstrong Braden. He graduated from Wamego High School in 1981, attended Kansas State University for one year and graduated from Emporia State University in 1988.

He worked as an assistant manager for Church's Fried Chicken in Kansas City, Kan., and for several years for Vanderbilt's in Wamego. Most recently, Lance worked for the SRS offices in Wamego and Junction City.

He was a member of the KSU and Emporia State marching bands, Wabaunsee County 4-H and the Emporia State University Alumni Association.

He loved gardening and pets. He baked very good breads and made homemade jelly. Mostly, Lance enjoyed helping and serving people. He was a history and Civil War buff, and was a very warm and gentle person.

In addition to his parents, Bill and Huann Braden, of Wamego, Lance is survived by two brothers, Stuart Braden and his wife, Ann, Mission, and Chris Braden, Wamego; a grandmother, Mrs. Hugh Armstrong, Salina; three aunts, Martha Braden, Nancy Persinger, Salina, and Marlene Richardson, Hutchinson; one uncle, Bryan Armstrong, Assaria; one niece, Elizabeth Braden; and one nephew, Collin Braden, Mission.

Memorial services for Lance will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego with the Revs. Dr. Tony Mattia and Bill Eisele officiating. Mr. Braden was cremated. Private inurnment services will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Emporia State University Alumni Association or Wamego Public Library-History Section and sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 48, Wamego, 66547.

Evelyn Ruth Breithaupt

LAWRENCE --- Evelyn Ruth Breithaupt, 88, Lawrence, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Church of the Nazarene in Lawrence. Burial will be in Worden Cemetery at Worden. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or Hospice Care of Douglas County and sent in care of the mortuary.

Walter D. Capsey

HOLTON --- Walter D. Capsey, 90, of Frankfort, formerly of Holton and Soldier, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at a Frankfort care home.

He was born Aug. 13, 1913, in Soldier, the son of Frank and Katherine O'Kane Capsey. He graduated from Soldier High School in 1932 and lived in Soldier before moving to Holton in 1968. He moved from Holton to Frankfort in 2002.

Mr. Capsey was a farmer and stockman and had also worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber in Topeka for 20 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Holton. He was a former member of the Soldier Lions Club and the Eagles Lodge in Topeka.

He married Virginia Carolina James on March 15, 1940. She died Jan. 19, 2004. Two sisters, Gertrude Bogart and Marjorie McClellan, and a brother, Roswell Capsey, also preceded him in death.

He is survived by a daughter, Nancy Gleason, of Frankfort; a son, Lawrence Capsey, of Wichita; six grandchildren; and 10 great- grandchildren.

Services for Mr. Capsey will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in Soldier Cemetery. He will lie in state until service time at the funeral home.
