Democratic leader leaves post, joins Ruff campaign

Patrick Murray resigned as executive director of the Kansas Democratic Party last week to manage Joan Ruff's campaign for the U.S. Senate.

The party also reported Mark Simpson, its finance director, will serve as special assistant to the chairman and will be responsible for fund-raising and political outreach.

Mike Gaughan is serving as director of operations for the party's day-to-day business.

Murray had served as executive director since March 1, 2003.

Simpson has been with the Democratic Party since February 2003 and has been involved in fund-raising, event planning and candidate support projects.

Gaughan has been on the Kansas Democratic Party team since November.
