Lois Joan 'Jody' Banta
HIAWATHA --- Lois Joan "Jody" Banta, 76, Hiawatha, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. Cremation is planned. Celebration of life services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha with family visitation one hour prior to services. Inurnment will be private.
Jody was born to Nellie D. Swan and Jessie M. Wyatt in La Cygne on Sept. 11, 1927.
She was married for 56 years to B. Richard Banta, DDS. He survives, of the home.
Other survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Leslie and Harrison Idol Jr., Hiawatha, Beverly and Tom Yokum, Burlington, and Becky and Herb Kuhn, Springfield, Va.; and five grandchildren, Rachel Idol, Jeff Idol, Jennie Idol, Thomas and Melanie Yokum and B.J. Yokum.
Jody was an active volunteer in many organizations including more than 35 years in Girl Scouts from local troop leader to president of Kaw Valley Girl Scout Council.
The family requests no flowers. Memorials are suggested to the Friends of the Morrill Public Library or Brown County Historical Society Quilt Group and may be sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S. 7th Street, Hiawatha, 66434.

Albert M. Bomar
ROCK CREEK --- Albert M. Bomar, 85, Rock Creek, completed his work on Earth and went to be with his Savior Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004. He had been a resident at Village Villa Care Center in Nortonville.
Mr. Bomar had farmed in Atchison and Jefferson Counties. He worked for Boeing Aviation, in Wichita; Jefferson County Road and Bridge Department, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., Wentz Equipment and Martin Tractor, all in Topeka; and John Hopp Co., in Sabetha.
He was born Dec. 15, 1918, southwest of Farmington, the son of John G. and Marie M. Atlakson Bomar. He was a graduate of Atchison County Community High School and Diesel Power United School in Kansas City, Mo.
He was a founding member of Rock Creek Bible Church and served on the church board. He was instrumental , along with other neighbors and friends, in organizing the Rock Creek Improvement District.
He married Dorothy E. Booth on Sept. 24, 1939, at Farmington.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, Nortonville; three daughters, Karen Kerr, Rock Creek, Ede Eakin, Lawrence, and Phyllis Pahmahmie, Topeka; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rock Creek Bible Church. Burial will be in Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Flagstaff Mission to the Navajo or to Rock Creek Bible Church and sent in care of the funeral home at P.O. Box 6, Valley Falls, 66088.
Mary Elizabeth Claycamp
WETMORE--- Mary Elizabeth Claycamp, 51, Wetmore, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, in Topeka.
She was born in Newton, on April 24, 1952. She grew up in Inman and graduated from Inman High School. She went on to receive her teaching degree from Bethany College. She taught grade school at several area schools.
Recently she had served as a para-teacher for children with special needs at Wetmore. She was very proud of the work that she was able to accomplish with these children. Mary also was heavily involved in community, family and religious activities. She was a woman of many talents, and she will be missed.
Her mother, Martha Yoder Schmidt, preceded Mary in death.
Survivors include her husband, Kevin; her father, Nick A. Schmidt; her four children, Eric, Jessica, Clinton and Emily; her sisters, Deb Unruh and Becky Beebe; and her brother, Steven Schmidt.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in Ontario Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials in her name have been established at the Wetmore Public Library and the Frankfort Public Library.
Velma M. 'Vel' Coulter
LAWRENCE --- Graveside services for Velma M. "Vel" Coulter, 74, Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence. The family will greet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. The casket will remain closed.
She died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Bryan Lawrence Jones
VALLEY FALLS --- Bryan Lawrence Jones, 26, Overland Park, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center after an extended illness.
Mr. Jones worked in the Lube Express Department at Wal-Mart in Shawnee.
He was born April 26, 1977, at Riverside, Calif., the son of James G. and Nancy O. Troxell Jones. He attended Valley Falls High School.
Survivors include his parents, at home; two sisters, Brenda Bobzien, Overland Park, and Cyndy Lentz, Independence, Mo.; a brother- in-law, Jerry Lentz, Valley Falls; a nephew, Brandon Bobzien, Overland Park; and two nieces, Megan Lentz and Baley Lentz, both of Valley Falls.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Friday until service time. Cremation will follow the services.
