Kevin Reed, chief karate instructor of Absolute Martial Arts, will teach karate and martial arts as an activity enrichment program. Reed has studied karate since 1985 and has been an instructor since 1995. He has a fourth-degree black belt in Shotokan. Reed's students include children as young as 4 in his kindergarten program to students in their 60s in his adult karate program.

ASA Marketing and FCC Advertising merge --- Jim Deines, chairman, ASA Marketing Group Inc., announced the merger of FCC Advertising with ASA Marketing Group.

Frank Chaffin, owner and president of FCC, is now vice president of new business development at ASA. Chaffin becomes one of nine employee-owners of ASA Marketing Group and is a member of the ASA board of directors.

Chaffin was in sales and management for local radio stations in Topeka and Lawrence before forming FCC Advertising in 1989 in Topeka. Chaffin and Deines started their advertising careers at competitive radio stations but became friends and share many of the same business philosophies.
