1979

Every bride with an announcement in the Jan. 7, 1979, edition of The Topeka Capital-Journal had her picture featured in this edition. The bridegroom's picture wasn't shown. The announcements were much shorter, with no details of the dresses, much as they are today.

2004

Wedding announcements today appear in the Hers Kansas section in the Sunday Topeka Capital-Journal. Photos of couples, rather than the bride only, have been the norm in the social news columns for two decades.

Since January 2000, The Capital-Journal has charged a fee for some of the information couples may choose to run. Couple also can opt for larger pictures than they were allowed before the fees went into effect.

In 2000, the newspaper also began giving engaged couples the option to have photos with their announcements after two decades with no photos with engagements.
