Wayne T. Stratton, a lawyer at Goodell, Stratton, Edmonds & Palmer, recently was elected a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, an honorary organization of practicing attorneys, judges and law teachers who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the welfare of their communities and to the highest principles of the legal profession.

Stratton graduated from Washburn University School of Law in 1958. He served as judge advocate in the U.S. Air Force before joining Goodell, Stratton, Edmonds & Palmer LLP in 1961.

Stratton has served as president of the Topeka Bar Association, the Kansas Association of Defense Counsel, the Kansas Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, the Kansas Association of Hospital Attorneys and the Sam. A. Crow American Inns of Court. He is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.

Kansas Professional Communicators, formerly Kansas Press Women, presented the 2004 Communications Contest awards May 2 at the Historic Brookville Hotel in Abilene. Area winners were:

Guy Clauer, Richard Jones and James Rhoe were honored at the 2004 Sheltered Living Inc. annual dinner.

Clauer received the Chuck Harpham Award for Direct Service Staff Member of the Year.

The Richard J. Tatro Award for Community Volunteerism was given to Richard Jones. For the past 24 years, Jones has volunteered weekly at the Kansas Neurological Institute chapel. He also volunteers at LULAC, helping in the kitchen and assisting some of the senior citizens with Bingo.

Rhoe was awarded the Personal Achievement Award. In 2 1/2 years, he lost 240 pounds, learned how to maintain his weight with healthy eating habits, began exercising regularly and became more active in the community by volunteering weekly for Meals on Wheels.
