Fund-raising event scheduled
The Shawnee County 4-H Community Service Council will have a fund- raising event at the County Fair this year. The event is called "Quarters for Cancer" and will benefit the American Cancer Society.
Individuals are asked to bring film canisters filled with quarters, or any monetary donation, to the Shawnee County Fair, which will take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Kansas Expocentre. There is no admission to enter the fair.
A wishing well, provided by Blackburn Nursery, will be at the center of the attraction.
The 4-H Community Service Council is asking for area businesses to donate gift certificates, coupons, or products for the drawings.
To donate to benefit the American Cancer Society, please call Potter at (785) 835-2433.
If people would like to donate to the Quarters for Cancer benefit but are unable to attend the event, they may send a donation to: Shawnee County Extension Office, c/o Community Service Committee, 1740 S.W. Western Ave., Topeka, 66604. Make checks payable to the American Cancer Society.
Church plans
Bible school
Calvary Lutheran Church, 4211 N.W. Topeka Blvd., will have evening Vacation Bible School from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. August 2-6. Call the church office at 286-1431 to enroll.
The church also will have a change of Vicars. Vicar Robert Tiner will be returning to the seminary in St. Louis for his final year of schooling. Vicar Brady Finnern will begin his year of vicarage at Calvary on Aug. 8. Vicar Finnern and his wife, Amy, will move to Topeka on Sunday.
Booster Club plans membership drive
Seaman Athletic Booster Club is having its membership drive and selling football seats at 6 p.m. Sunday at the SHS stadium.
Viking spirit gear and sports admission cards also will be for sale. SABC is having its first meeting for the year at 7 p.m. Aug. 11 in room E-C.
35-year reunion planned
A 35-year reunion is planned for the Seaman High School Class of 1969 this weekend.
Attendees should plan to meet at the North Topeka China Inn at 7 p.m. Friday.
A casual lakeside evening is planned from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday at Reynold's Lodge at Lake Shawnee. A dinner will be catered at about 7 p.m.
